The same people who dismiss the current Egyptians as being generally descendants of the ancient ones on the basis that they were not Muslims (as if the Arabs themselves were Muslims all along!), perpetuate that the now-islamic Beja (who were Christians) are! https://twitter.com/AfricaFactsZon/status/1354288088344915974
The Beja are pastoral nomads, while the ancient—and present—Egyptians lived off agricultural activities on the banks of the Nile River—completely different.
The Badawi language belongs to the cushitic branch of the Afroasiatic language family—separate from the Egyptian. "Badawi" is a transliteration of the Arabic for bedouin. Don't Afrocentrists call us out over being Arabic bedouins who came from the desert—which we weren't?
Dobon et al. (2015) compared the Beja to multiple East African and North East African populations. Dobon et al. (2015) found that “[t]he lowest average FST (0.003) was found both in the pair ... Beja and Ethiopians”, i.e.; they cluster the closest to Ethiopians.
This is important because, Schuenemann et al. (2017), from the Abusir Mummies study, compared the ancient Egyptians to Ethiopians and decisively ruled out any continuity between modern day Ethiopians and Ancient Egyptians—contrary to modern day Egyptians.
"We used the dataset of 120 Ethiopian and 100 Egyptian modern mtDNA genomes from Pagani
et al. to determine whether we can detect genetic discontinuity between ancient and modern Egypt...
However, the method was only able to detect strong signs of discontinuity between our ancient populations and modern Ethiopians." (Schuenemann et al., 2017).
