1/ @anticorruption announced its Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for 2020 today.

Pakistan's ranking fell by 4 points. It came down from 120 to 124 out of 180 countries.

Our score fell from 32 to 31 (scale 0 to 100; 0-9 = highly corrupt; 90-100 = very clean)
2/ Here is our historical performance.

Pakistan ranked 139th in 2012, with a score of 27. It then started improving drastically reaching the peak of 117th position and a score of 33 in 2018, before slipping down.

Our ranking & score have now been worsening over the last 2 years
3/ @anticorruption (TI)'s CPI is based on maximum of 13 sources but not all sources available for all countries.

Pakistan's rank is based on 8 sources. Pls see the figure (for Pakistan sources 3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 are used)
4/ What Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2020 (and the sources it relies on) capture:

(Many of these are captured in CPI 2020 ranking/score for Pakistan)
5/ What Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2020 does NOT capture:

(So CPI 2020 ranking/score for Pakistan does not reflect on these elements)
6/ Here are the ranks/score for South Asian countries (for CPI though Pakistan is included in Asia Pacific region)

Pakistan 124 (31) - 3rd worst in South Asia

Afghanistan 165 (19)
Bangladesh 146 (26)
Bhutan 24 (68)
India 86 (40)
Maldives 75 (43)
Nepal 117 (33)
Sri Lanka 94 (38)
7/ Last year, many ppl in Pakistan questioned statistical significance of CPI

Changes in CPI scores are considered statistically significant using a 90% confidence interval

This year standard error for Pakistan is less than 2019

Standard Error (Pakistan)

2019: 2.46
2020: 1.80
8/ TI's CPI: Countries which are given similar ratings by sources have a smaller standard error, while countries with a range of source scores have a larger SE. 1-2 CPI score change may not be statistically significant

but

Pakistan is showing a clear trend for the last 2 yrs
