Boris Johnson is coming to Scotland today to try and salvage some sort of support for the union.

It would be a shame if someone was to ruin his visit by doing a thread on just some of the things the PM has said about Scotland and devolution...

Oh look, a thread!

In November 2020, Boris Johnson told his MP’s that "devolution has been a disaster north of the border" and it was "Tony Blair's biggest mistake".

He also told this MPs that under him no more powers would be handed down from Westminster.

In that same article back in February 2001, Boris Johnson seemed to have an issue with Scots holding Cabinet positions...
Heres one more from the 2001 article Boris Johnson penned...

“The Scots are grossly over-represented at Westminster in the sense that each Scottish MP has 54,000 electors, and each English MP has 69,000.”

Of course, we have the now infamous “A pound spent in Croydon is far more of value to the country that’s a pound spent in Strathclyde”

Boris Johnson also described a Tory promise to keep the Barnett Formula as “reckless”

He also hit out at plans during the independence referendum to boost the Scottish Parliaments financial powers.

The PM has criticised the Barnett Formula quite a lot. In 2009, he described it as a “system of amazing political antiquity by which the English taxpayer sends about £20 billion every year to Scotland as a kind of present”.

20 opinion polls in a row show a majority of Scots now back Scotland becoming an independent country.

Boris Johnson can try and halt democracy but he will fail.
Democracy is a process not an event as he likes to make it out to be.

At the elections in May,
@theSNP will be seeking the express authority of the Scottish people, no one else’s to hold a post-pandemic independence referendum.

The best way to guarantee we can deliver that referendum is to make it
#bothvotesSNP
Every vote will count.
