Law & Order is a show about civil servants trying to solve murders & the New Yorkers who hate them. It’s not copaganda. It’s an ACAB nighttime soap. Baristas will NOT stop frothing milk. Bartenders HATE being interrupted whilst scrubbing. Box unloading dudes STAY unloading boxes.
Everybody in every Law & Order episode who isn’t a cop is just incredibly fucking annoyed by cops. Every suspect, every lawyer (they’re all terrible at their jobs), every waiter, every bookstore clerk who sold a murder novel to a murder suspect. Just utterly irritated.
Cops on any given Law & Order show will respectfully speak to a grieving mother whose sweet orchestra violinist daughter was just sex murdered & drowned in the Gowanus and the mom (played by an aging Broadway veteran) will be like, “I hate cops, fuck off and die.”
Law & Order is really an alternate universe where every person of every color, creed, nation of origin, etc. has an equal disdain for cops, and cops are constantly getting punished for shit. In this defense of my Ph.d thesis in Low Key Trojan Horse Antifa Pop Culture Studies, I
Every fucking year I’m like “you know what, I’m writing a fucking Law & Order spec“ and every fucking year people are like “you should do that, it really seems like you need to do that for some frightening personal reason“ and every year I don’t do it. MAYBE THIS YEAR.
Goddamnit I love that fucking show. Can’t remember the names of any characters ever, don’t care, fucking love it.
Something that a lot of TV fans don’t know (because why would they) is that if you are trying to get staffed on a particular television program as a writer, you do not send a spec script written for that show to that show. Just a fun actual fact for you in an insane thread.
