a thread on why i think seijoh losing the final match vs. karasuno was incredibly important
but only for oikawa, the rest of them missed out on a once in a lifetime opportunity and it sucks for them đź’”

it's not that i didn't want seijoh to win, like man if they did that'd be so cool! but it's want vs need. they needed to lose so oikawa could keep loving volleyball
let's say seijoh wins. then they get to nationals and they lose in the first round. how would that affect oikawa?? the dream he worked towards his whole life wasnt chalked up to what he thought it'd be. i think it'd be more disheartening than not making it in the first place.
let's say seijoh wins nationals. he gets the attention we all know he deserved. he signs to a japan volleyball team and never goes to argentina. he might feel trapped by japan and with kageyama so close in proximity, he might never let go of the pressure and anxiety he feels.
seijoh losing pushed oikawa to go to argentina, and argentina gave him so much more. he was coached by his idol. he was able to finally let himself breathe. he met hinata and remembered that volleyball is /fun/!!! he learned techniques he'd never have learned in japan.
he got to experience a new culture and maybe that helped him along with his improved mental health. for the first time in a while oikawa was freed of expectations set by himself and others, which is something he probably never would have gotten in japan.
so all in all, seijoh losing to karasuno was probably the best thing that could've happened for oikawa, and for the rest i feel bad but anyway go tĂo toto
