1/ I would love it if the Democratic prosecutors for Trump’s impeachment trial went full bore on offense right out of the gate with something like:

2/ “We will be presenting our case to you, the American people. Technically the jury is in this room, but when this is over you are likely to see that the majority of the Republican Senators here are spineless people who don’t care if Trump is guilty.”

3/ “You, the American people, will get to see the evidence showing that Trump is guilty. If the Republican Senators choose to ignore the evidence and vote to acquit Trump because that is what they would do no matter what, you get to be their jury when they run for re-election.”

4/ “Please, pay attention to the videos and other evidence here and then see how Fox News prime time hosts try to deceive you, in service to Donald Trump, who tried to overthrow our Democracy. Deceiving for Donald Trump is not patriotism. Don’t let Fox News deceive you.”

5/ “If at the end of this trial you see that Donald Trump needs to be found guilty, then you see most of these Republican Senators prove that they are spineless, as I predicted, never forget that. Remember their names forever, in infamy.”

6/ “If you see spinelessness from these Republican Senators, don’t forget who their corporate donors are. Pay attention to whether these corporations condone their actions by trying to get them re-elected. Hold all of them accountable if they won’t hold Donald Trump accountable.”

7/ “Now we will show you a video.”

At this point the 10 minute Just Security video plays, showing Donald Trump’s speech on 1/6/21 along with how his crowd was taking his words. As clear direction for them to be violent, for him. Like an army going to war getting a pep talk.

8/ Of course, I would expect them to be more eloquent than I have been here, but it would be great to see them go on offense a little like this and not act like the Republican members in the room are honest brokers who they need to convince. Convince the public.

9/ The Democrats could also include something like:

“As I stand here talking to you the Capitol Police are protecting everybody in this building. Watch to see if these Republican Senators care 1 bit about the ~140 officers who were injured, with multiple dead, from this attack.”

10/ In short, I think the Democratic prosecutors should seriously consider viewing this as an opportunity to put Republican Senators on trial. Not just those involved (Cruz, Hawley, ...), but any who will vote to acquit for selfish political reasons. If the Rs don’t like it, tfb.
