To everyone freaking out about Linda Thomas-Greenfield giving a speech at the Savannah State University Confucius Institute — I, too, gave a speech at that Confucius Institute, one year before she did.

(tl;dr the Confucius Institute Chinese co-director ordered university staff to delete the word "Taiwan" from my bio).
HBCUs need more funding for language and study abroad programs. Shame on us as a society for not making sure they have what they need, and allowing an authoritarian foreign government to fill that need instead.
And by the way -- hire Savannah State University journalism graduates! They are super talented. I saw that for myself when I visited.
And a quick clarification on my comment about HBCUs often not having access to as much funding for language and study abroad -- Savannah State is an incredible university with skilled and talented leaders, and great agency of their own.
They do an amazing job of providing opportunities for their students.
