I will vote for anyone leading the Labor Party at the next federal election. & I won’t talk against that leader as altho I know I can vote for other progressive parties & still preference LNP last, ppl who see what I say may not know how to do that.

Short thread.

Which means anything I say against Labor or their leader will negatively influence their chance of winning that election. This doesn’t mean I think Labor is perfect, or even great. It means I think voting Labor is the ONLY chance AUS has of being a slightly better place.

Once it is a slightly better place, then ppl will see their lives improving & momentum will build to make it even better still. This is currently the ONLY way to make a better world. Yep, it’s really hard, & made harder by lying media (which is why we’re working on them).

But there’s literally no other system with even a slight chance of getting a change of govt. Most ppl are disengaged from politics & if you slam Labor, you force them back into making choices based on personalities & lies instead of policies. That’s how the LNP keep winning.

Labor is frustrating, sure, but this close to an election it’s won’t help to attack them. Progressive ppl did this to Shorten, too, & he lost by ONE SEAT. Who can say it wasn’t partly progressive voters who caused this?

This isn’t a Labor-loving account. Not at all.

MFW are a *pragmatic* account. We can see there’s no way out of a slide towards authoritarianism and hate except to elect a govt. that’s a little bit better, than go from there.

We also have some trust that Aussies are looking at the US & seeing what Biden is doing.

They’re also looking at the UK & how its imploding. Those are positive developments that’ll help here.

In the past, we’ve criticised Labor. But we now think this is a dangerous game, & often wrong as it’s terrible media & other forces rather than Albo causing the problems.

Everyone is entitled to their view. Ours is that a lot of the current criticism of Labor may well be justified, but saying this too loudly at this stage will almost certainly cause the loss the next election.

That’s both terrifying and untenable.

Ends.
PS: (1) Can’t anyone else see that @JoeBiden was v. careful in what he said he’d do about climate, refugees & so on before the election, but now AFTER the election he’s immediately doing heaps of amazing stuff?

How on earth can ppl see that & say Labor are hopeless?
PS: (2) Labor have NO CHOICE but to speak v. carefully about their policies BEFORE an election. They know Morrison will crucify them & say they’ll cause job losses etc. if they talk up climate action too much. What they say now has NO BEARING on how they’ll act after. Fuck sake.
