1. If you're a #bced parent who wants to hold your child back a year from starting kindergarten (due to late birthday, developmental issues etc), and your school or district says child will have to go directly to grade one the next year (instead of kindergarten), .../2
2. You don't have to accept that. Tell them you're filing a Section 11 appeal to the school board. Insist on getting a hearing with the trustees. If you're a @VSB39 parent, here's how to do it. https://www.vsb.bc.ca/District/Board-of-Education/District_By_Laws/Pages/By-law-No.-2---Section-11-Appeal-Procedure.aspx
3. Under the School Act (Section 11(3)), all #bced school districts are required to have an appeal hearing process. If you can't find the information on your district's website (search Section 11 Appeal), call your school district office and ask for the info to file your appeal.
4. If you're a #bced trustee, please make sure your administrators understand the need to respect parents' decisions re when their child is ready for kindergarten
Your child is entitled to kindergarten plus 12 years of school. Don't let them deny you that. I'm very disappointed to hear some school principals are trying to do this, and it needs to stop. #bced
