New: Why arent progressives scared re: Biden/Manchin/Sinema statements on filibuster? 1) they think holdouts need to show it's a last resort 2) Likeliest scenario ties ending filibuster to popular legislation (like the John Lewis Voting Act). Me + @llerer https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/27/us/politics/biden-filibuster.html
No one expects a mass shift on the filibuster as an abstract debate. Expect the biggest push (and the best chance to get Biden to move) to be linked to a specific bill Republicans have blocked that has popular support. Basically give it a month https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/27/us/politics/biden-filibuster.html
not to go full Washington tweet but consensus seems that the best bet is John Lewis Act because it's something that cannot be passed through reconciliation and it's also what Obama foreshadowed in eulogy (Jim Crow relic) https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/27/us/politics/biden-filibuster.html
