I love it when I read or hear stories about POC who succeed, despite social, economical, and other various obstacles they faced on their path. It’s inspiring. But what I don’t like, is when their stories are used in bad faith, to prop up the myth of the “model minority”.

Their stories and triumphs are not for you to use to invalidate current concerns. Using them as examples to discredit the validity of their communities’ struggles and the generations of families still trying to catch up.

I have a problem with us settling and accepting this idea that opportunities are only there for those who truly deserve it. That you have to be a star athlete or a valedictorian to defy the odds in order to have the opportunities for success. It’s total bullshit.
