*openly weeping* men, why can't you wear these..... please.........
Oh my god apparently I need to do a thread because y'all men don't actually know what a corset is, what it's for, what it does, and what it definitely doesn't do. HERE WE GO.
#1: "I don't wear corsets because my body doesn't look like that"
You sweet.... sweet.... SWEET summer children. You sweet fucking gullible babies. You absolute naive innocent lambs. You precious, PRECIOUS naifs.
That's what a corset is *LITERALLY F O R*.

This is the comment I'm getting that I'm the most actively annoyed about, because female-socialized people have been indoctrinated for our entire lives that we must wear Garments To Change Our Shapes To Be Socially Acceptable. And yet you... think bodies just Look Like That
you sweet summer children. You starry-eyed infants.
I'm mad because you apparently don't even notice how much work the female-aligned people around you are putting into their appearance and shape, except when they DON'T do it, whereupon you scrunch up your noses like "ew gross"

I am going to try to stop being mad about the fact that this has gone over your blithe, oblivious little heads and explain with concrete examples.
Have you ever seen a boob
Have you ever seen a boob
Like, a real boob. A real boob attached to a real person in real life, naked. Have you seen one?
Did that boob look different when it was in a bra vs when it was not in a bra? PROBABLY.
Did that boob look different when it was in a bra vs when it was not in a bra? PROBABLY.
Maybe it was saggier, or pointier, or jigglier. You might have sort of distantly noticed that, but probably didn't really care, right? Because you were just fuckin psyched to get to see a boob, yeah?
Corsets do the same thing that bras do, just... for the whole torso.

They provide support, and they gently constrict/smooth/squish your bits into a slightly different shape.
Bras literally developed from corsets. For some people, it is uncomfy when boobs flap around. Party tits partyin' too hard, gotta be strapped down so one can Calm One's Tits

Corsets are not just for women! During certain periods of history, men also wore corsets for EXACTLY the same reasons -- smoothing out the silhouette into the Fashionable Shape.
It's just old-school shapewear, like Spanx. People have been temporarily adjusting their bodies for the sake of Fashion for *THOUSANDS OF YEARS*. It is really only since Capitalism came along to program and then prey on our insecurities that things got really Bad.
For people with back problems, corsets are great! For people with bigger breasts, corsets are great!
Corsets might not be for everybody (in terms of aesthetic preferences, physical comfort, health, ability) but any generalized body *type* can indeed wear them.

You don't have to be thin to wear a corset. You can be *any shape*, because a corset will take your natural shape and gently squish it into a slightly different shape, and sometimes that's a fun and exciting thing to play with.
Note: Bodyshaming fucking sucks and only losers do it. There is nothing wrong with your natural body shape. Your body is not a problem. Nobody should feel obligated to change their body.
But sometimes it is *fun* to do, and if it's fun, then you should be able to do it.

Anyway, back to the point -- Your body shape does not impact whether you can WEAR a corset. It might impact whether you can FIND AND BUY a corset in your size, because Capitalism also fucking sucks.
But that's Capitalism's fault. That's on them, not on you.

Bodies is bodies. There are no bad bodies, only bad tailoring* and Capitalism**.
----
*ie: shitty materials, shitty construction, upsettingly limited size selection
**which is the root cause of most bad tailoring

NEXT POINT: "I don't wear corsets because I like to be able to breathe."
This is a myth that Hollywood has brainwashed you with. Corsets do not significantly impact your ability to breathe. Most corsets feel like a snug, firm hug, that's it.

If you can breathe while being hugged, you can breathe in a corset.
Most corsets are not for tightlacing -- this is tightlacing:

You know that scene at the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean when Elizabeth falls off the wall because she can't breathe? Yeahhhh she was actually wearing stays (an earlier predecessor of corsets), which wouldn't have had NEARLY enough of a reduction to impact her breathing
Additionally: People have been wearing corsets for like 600 years of history just as often as people wear bras today. They were still able to bend, lift heavy things, do physical labor, dance, care for children, etc. They're really not that restrictive once you're used to them.
#3: "they're expensive"
Yeah, good quality clothes that look nice cost money, that's also Capitalism for you. I have little sympathy, considering that women are socially expected to wear bras every day and a good bra costs upwards of $40

No one is socially pressuring you to wear corsets. $200-300 or so for a corset that is essentially special-occasion/formal wear isn't that bad. How much does a good three-piece suit cost?
It WOULD make you hotter, so why not go ahead and wear one regardless of Fashion? MAKE it fashion. Wear things that make you feel hot!!!! It's allowed!!!! https://twitter.com/piersb/status/1354584310704168970
HELL yeah. You put on a corset and suddenly your posture is effortlessly excellent because of that built-in back support. https://twitter.com/OurLadyofAntifa/status/1354586653025853441
Anyway, back to my original question https://twitter.com/_alexrowland/status/1354549011848585218
That was in fact a rhetorical question, but even if it HADN'T been, nobody provided the actually correct answer: "Because toxic masculinity is why we can't have nice things."
