I've said this before, When some one with ADHD is *actively* listening, to a normal person, it looks like they *aren't* listening.
We don't sit still, don't look you in the eyes, may not stop what we're doing, we'll probably interrupt you*, we'll ask you to repeat yourself.†

We'll talk about ourselves.‡ We'll want to walk around.
It's *very* counter-intuitive, but that's what ADHD listening will look like.
Like we're not at all. What's worse is we will probably forget and it'll look even more like we weren't.

Marked because they're a confirmation that an ADHDer is *actively* listening.
*Interruptting means by listening, you gave us an associated thought or memory & it's important/relevant enough it needs to be said before it's forgotten, or we blurt it out because poor inhibition.

† Asking you to repeat yourself either means: we realized we got distracted & are trying to get what we missed; We are listening, but auditory processing problems were happening; or already we forgot something.

‡This one is also a strong indication that not only are we listening, but ironically, talking about ourselves is an indication that we care.
We're attempting to empathize. It's either I know what you're feeling/saying because I've witnessed, been there, or somewhere similar.

It's all super backwards looking.
The rest is just mash of normal ADHD stemming, hyper focus, or trying to minimize distractions via visual focus/kinesthetic focus on other stuff.
The wanting to walk around could be the hyperactivity *or* something like kinesthetic thinking.

So to #ADHDTwitter, #DREADpirates, #NuerodiverseSquad, & people that interact with them, this is sort of a rambling thread on #ADHD & what listening looks like, but I was reminded of a thought/conversation by @blkgirllostkeys article on ADHD & relationships, which is QT'd@ top.

Another indication of an ADHDer listening: Asking questions.
New/novel information = Dopamine
Associative memory also means you probably drug up something we're now trying to compare & contrast it with.
Or otherwise figure out where and how it fits in with.

I'm pretty sure this is the part where I'm supposed to plug myself or something, but uh...
Go drink some water.
Go drink some water.
