I've been meaning to get this off my chest for a while now. RE7 might not be your cup of tea, but to say that it is NOT an RE game is completely insane. Here's my thread to show why it's an RE game and a bloody good one at that. It's the classic formula in a modern game!

1/20
Inventory Boxes:

Inventory boxes are a staple of classic RE, and seeing their return after so long missing was a much needed breath of fresh air. Allowing us to choose what we want to bring with us before venturing on further into the unknown.

2/20
Save Rooms & Music:

Seeing save Rooms return just shows that we have a terrifying game on our hands. Rooms where we can have a breather from the other horrors. And the music that accompany them are đź‘Ś

3/20
Save Points:

Save Points were definitely missing from the franchise for the longest time. Even though they used to come in the form of typewriters and ink ribbons, seeing them come back with tape recorders and casette tapes was amazing!

4/20
Keys:

Keys played a big role in the classics. Having to backtrack to old parts of the iconic locations after finding a certain key to unlock a whole other section of that location was amazing. Seeing this return was definitely a good thing.

5/20
Inventory Management:

Much like with the item boxes, the inventory system was also a nice touch. Giving us a limited capacity where we had to choose what we wanted on us before continuing on and backtracking to find an item box gave a sense of much needed nostalgia.

6/20
Upgradable Inventory:

With the inventory management came the upgradeable inventory. Much like Code Veronica, being able to find packs to give extra space in our inventory to allow for less backtracking to item boxes. A lovely sense of upgrade and progression.

7/20
Puzzles:

Puzzles should never have left the franchise to begin with. They are a staple to the franchise and seeing them return, even if it was just for a small role, was definitely a nice feeling.

8/20
Signature Rooms:

Everyone classic RE game has a signature room. Whether that be the Main Hall of the Spencer Mansion, the Main Hall of the RPD, or the Hall to the Clock Tower. The equivalent of this for RE7 would have to be the Main Hall of the Baker Mansion.

9/20
Claustrophobic Corridors:

Claustrophobic corridors were definitely an important part of the classics. Being stuck in a hallway with no where to run with enemies trapping you from both sides. It was nice to see how good it works in a first person perspective for RE7.

10/20
Horror & Atmosphere:

RE has always been known for its terrifying atmosphere and jump scares. Sadly they were missing for a long time but RE7 brought them back in a new and interesting way. Something that managed to keep the franchise fresh but equally as heart pounding.

11/20
Slow Moving Enemies:

Whilst the molded aren't the most appealing of enemy designs, they definitely fill out the same role as the zombies from the classic games. They're equally as terrifying in their own right.

12/20
Fast-paced Enemies:

The Quick Molded enemies play a similar role to the Lickers from the classic games. Whilst easy to dispose of, their quick movement and attack speed can make them a terrifying opponent.

13/20
Stalker:

Jack Baker acted as the equivalent to Nemesis or Mr X. Whilst his role is only short if you know what you're doing in the game, he's definitely terrifying when he bursts through walls if you're not quiet.

14/20
Boss Fights:

The franchise has had it's fair share of boss fights throughout the years. Going from giant plants, to a giant houseflies. Seeing this return to form of simplistic but effective boss fights is great to see. They make for some memorable moments for sure!

15/20
Viruses and Vaccines:

A lot of people were worries for RE7 because of the paranormal elements they were showing in the trailers. But of course in classic RE fashion, it was all down to a virus. Whether that be the T-Virus, G-Virus or the new E-Series Virus.

16/20
Final OP Weapon:

Would it even be a RE game if it didn't include an over powered final weapon to dispose of the final boss? The Albert-01 was a nice change from the usual rocket launcher, but still just as badass.

17/20
Helicopter Ending:

And just like with the previous point, would it even be an RE game if it didn't include a helicopter at the end of the game, as the protagonist looks down upon the destruction and horror that they escaped from?

18/20
In conclusion, Resident Evil 7 brought back a lot of the elements that have been missing from the franchise for a long time. Things that were considered a staple of the series. Whether or not you like the first person perspective or not, it is hard to find an excuse as to

19/20
Why this wouldn't be considered a brilliant addition to the franchise. It's important to note that zombies and a camera perspective do not "make" an RE game, but the elements contained within the game do. RE7 contains almost all of the fundamental parts to a great RE game.
