Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. As @POTUS @JoeBiden exhorts, "We must pass the history of the Holocaust on to our grandchildren and their grandchildren in order to keep real the promise of 'never again.' That is how we prevent future genocides." 1/
Coincidentally (or not) today the @JewishJournal published this article by me and @PsychRabble. I will also post in this thread the article to which this one responds, and the earlier piece I co-wrote with Joel Finkelstein to which that one responds. 2/ https://jewishjournal.com/commentary/332109/why-no-one-should-accept-a-critical-ethnic-studies-curriculum-least-of-all-jews
CA's "ethnic studies" curriculum doesn't teach what happened during the Holocaust. Instead it teaches this (see images). Ask your children what they've learned about the Holocaust from school. Holocaust education seems to be minimal in many schools. 3/
Almost half of Americans can't name a single concentration camp. Not even Auschwitz. "When asked about it by name in 2018, more than 40% of American adults and fully two-thirds of American Millennials did not know what Auschwitz was." This is the original article I co-wrote with Joel Finkelstein for @JewishJournal about the CA proposed (MANDATORY) "Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum." The ways in which Jews are depicted present a troubling resemblance to antisemitic conspiracy theories. 5/ https://jewishjournal.com/commentary/327667/jews-have-until-thursday-to-influence-ethnic-studies-curriculum/
In true Talmudic fashion, the @JewishJournal published this response by @SFJCRC Director, @TyeGregory, who, with others, advocated to remove some blatantly antisemitic content, & ensure that Jewish Americans were included. This is his "playbook." 6/ https://jewishjournal.com/commentary/332106/a-jewish-community-playbook-on-ethnic-studies
. @PsychRabble & I think Jews shouldn't agree to a critical ethnic studies "playbook" in the first place. We see the paradigm itself as infused with troubling ideas about race and identity that will logically result in increased anti-Jewish hostility. 7/ https://jewishjournal.com/commentary/332109/why-no-one-should-accept-a-critical-ethnic-studies-curriculum-least-of-all-jews/
What do you think about using a "critical ethnic studies" paradigm in K12? [end]
