THREAD: UK Hip Hop Albums to give you a taste of what the scene has to offer
@Skepta - Konnichiwa
In my eyes the quintessential grime album. Every song is hard af and Skepta kills it with his typically strong delivery and some great bars. Production is some of the best you’ll hear out of the UK
@LoyleCarner -Yesterday’s Gone
My favourite in the scene. A personal fanboy of Mos Def and it reflects in the music. Beautiful jazz and soul inspired beats. Loyle’s flow is 🔥🔥 and his lyricism paints vivid imagery that places you deep into his life
@LittleSimz - GREY Area
Simz Comes with bars and a delivery that lets everyone know she’s arrived. Her thoughtful examinations of her life shows the self assurance of a veteran. ‘I’m Jay-Z on a bad day, Shakespeare on my worst day’ tells you all you need to know
@slowthai - Nothing Great About Britain
Slowthai’s punk-inspired full-length arrival onto the UK scene added energy that has rarely been seen since The Streets. A brilliant debut that perfectly captures the feeling of what it’s like to grow up in your average British town
@DizzeeRascal -Boy In Da Corner
What I consider to be the first grime classic. Exploding out of the popular UK garage scene, 18-year-old Dizzee’s flow is insane and the production equally crazy. Hungry to make it out of his struggle, few go harder than Dizzee does on this record.
@Jhus - Big Conspiracy
Hus produces his best work yet with Big Conspiracy. His combination of braggadocio, criminal tales and the black struggle is boosted by his strong pen game. Jae 5’s production provides a great platform blending Afrobeats, grime and soul perfectly
@TheRealKano - Made In The Manor
Kano perfectly does what it says on the label with this album, detailing how the legendary MC came to be who he was. A brilliant lyricist, Kano takes listeners on a journey through his life with hard hitting bangers and emotional cuts throughout
@tinie - Junk Food
Tinie Tempah, best known for his excellent blend of pop and hip hop returns to his roots with this great grime tape. A strong ft list provides some highlights such as Been the Man ft Stormzy, JME & Ms Banks. Tinie proves he’s still got the flair for grime here
@akalamusic -The Thieves Banquet
Coming to the mic with a pure rage for the injustices of the world, Akala hits home on many of the worlds evils in under an hour. There’s no ‘lyrical miracle’ about this, it’ll leave you riled up and ready to join the cause with his political raps
@Wretch32 & @officialAvelino - Young Fire, Old Flame

This is a fun collaboration between an established MC in Wretch and a young and a hungry Avelino. Wretch does what he does best with great lyricism, and Avelino’s fantastic word play will keep you in awe of his bars
Digdat- Ei8ht Mile
Most would go with EDNA but I think Digdat achieves more with less on this drill record. His word play and punchlines are unrivalled by the rest of the drill scene although you’ll miss half of them if you’re not a fan of football. Digdat proves why he’s up next
@officialgiggs -Wamp 2 Dem
Originally had Landlord but so// @stealtheoxygen_ for changing my mind. Imo Giggs has the best delivery in the UK with a voice perfect for HH. Helped by some brilliant trap production and a Nutcracker sample I didn’t know I needed, this is a great listen
@THEREALGHETTS - Rebel With A Cause
The grime OG at his best with this one imo. Lyrically complex and bar heavy, Ghetts has one of the best pen games in the country. There’s something for everyone on this with Ghetts even changing up his style in the latter parts
@DDoubleE7 - Double or Nothing

Another GOAT of the scene, DDE rarely drops his own projects but when he does its always worth the listen. His unique flow and delivery will never get old to me. Helped by features that prove his power in the game, he proves his GOAT status here
London Posse- Gangster Chronicles: The Definitive Collection
An early ‘grime album’, The London Posse wear their Garage and Reggae background on their sleeve here. That makes for is a sound that isn’t quite recognisable of grime today, setting it apart from the rest of the list
@mikeskinnerltd -A Grand Don’t Come for Free
A perfect project in my eyes. The original NGAB, it fills you with the hopelessness of the average British youth through witty & heartfelt writing. A masterclass in storytelling that will be equally popular with the Indie and HH scene
@rootsmanuva - Run Come Save Me
In what is sonically an ode to KRS-One, Roots’ inspirations are not worn lightly. He does, however, manage to deliver a great listen, taking you through his life’s struggles and regrets. A vulnerable album that also shows his witty side at times.
@KING_SALIEU -Send Them To Coventry
Pa Salieu takes grime in a distinct new direction with this one, taking elements of dancehall, afrobeats and US HH. His lyrics deal with his hometown of Coventry, a nuanced place of crime but also hope for a brighter future. A must listen debut
Mikill Pane-Let MC Get It
One of the best in the UK underground, Mikill Pane is criminally underrated. This EP is a fun taste of his talents, nothing too heavy just great bars and wordplay throughout. Also a great Giggs ft where he delivers a flow most Giggs fans won’t be used to
@Santandave1 - Psychodrama
At this point everyone already knows what he can deliver. The concept album treats the record as Dave’s therapy for his past woes and and future worries. Dave shows his incredible lyricism and at 21 proves he has potential to be a worldwide phenomenon
@KojeyRadical -Cashmere Tears
Breaking away from the confines of Grime or Drill, Kojey delivers a fantastic funk/HH debut. A Pusha T cosign tells you all you need to know about the talents of this man. He delivers an emotional take on his everyday life with this one. Must Listen
@Mhuncho_1 - Huncholini the 1st
A genuinely fun listen throughout. Over trap production, Huncho delivers a familiar blend of braggadocio and tales of crime. His melodic flow, unusual vocal inflections and adlibs show the far stretching influence of artists like Young Thug
@unknwnt9 -Rise Above Hate
With his hit Homerton B helping bust drill into the mainstream in the UK, how could I not mention T? Using music as an outlet to deal with his recently dropped murder charges, you’re taken through the current challenges in his life. Some great bars too
