The Labour leader @Keir_Starmer sent a supportive tweet recognising #HolocaustMemorialDay2021

It took me five minutes to find these replies....

Let’s start with the “What about Palastine?!” Tweets.....
...some more....
And then there is the comparison between 6 Million murdered Jews (and more of other minorities) and COVID Pandemic....
Then of course, we have “Anti-Zionism is not Anti-semitism!” ....on a Holocaust Memorial tweet... 🤔
Then we have the “whataboutary” gang....cos Jews don’t deserve anything just focused on them...obviously...
Then finishing on a quick mention of the Israeli Jew recently hired by Labour. Nice 👍
So what have we learned here? Well, nothing that myself and many Jews don’t already know, and that’s that Jews don’t count.
What do I mean by that? Well, imagine the tweet by the LOTO was about the Aids epedemic in the 80’s. Imagine it was about 9/11 or Remembrance Day....
How many people do you think would say “but what about Palestine?!” Or “being ‘anti gay’ doesn’t mean being homophobic!?” ?
Don’t get me wrong, homophobia is real and a HUGE problem, other historic and current issues and tragedies ALL matter. Some matter more to some people as is natural- we all have personal connections and feelings and history, but why are Jews not allowed their moment?
Secondly, the link between Jews worldwide and the actions of the state of Israel.
Israel is a Jewish state where Christians, Muslims and Atheists live and thrive. They have problems and their government have (as all governments have) made bad decisions along the way...
But would you ever dream of blaming the black community for the actions of the Ugandan government?! Would you hold a British man of Chinese decent responsible for actions of the Chinese government?

The Holocaust is about the death of European Jews. Not Israel. Not Palestine.
Then we have people comparing COVID. Again, it’s about not letting Jews have their moment and feeling zero empathy for Jewish history. COVID is a disaster and we mourn those who have died and suffered but, here’s the important thing....
WE 👏 CAN 👏TALK 👏AND 👏THINK 👏AND 👏FEEL 👏ABOUT 👏MORE 👏THAN 👏ONE 👏THING 👏AT 🤔THE 👏SAME 👏TIME 👏THAT 👏ARE 👏NOT 👏RELATED.
Last thing from me, and this is delicate and often I skirt around it because I worry about who I might upset, but I’m done being worried about that.....if you know you are not AS and don’t support AS views, then this shouldn’t upset you....
The amount of comments I see daily with these sorts of views, (and I see LOTS every day) that come from those calling themselves ‘socialists’ ‘lefties’ and/ or ‘Corbyn supporters’ and ‘Labour members’ is troubling....
I do not care who anyone votes for, how the lean politically and am I a very open person, a liberal person. I also try not to judge or generalise and label people because of their identity, this also doesn’t mean I’m a hard right supporter...
...but the refusal to accept that there is any issue with AS in sections of the Labour Party and within parts of its following is offensive. Once again, we don’t count, we don’t matter, we should be silent.
On a day like today and after the comments like these (these are a fraction) Jews will remember that we do matter, whether we have “done alright for ourselves”, whether we have rebuilt ourselves and achieved, whether we have vowed to never let the world forget...
...we will always remember, we will always matter, and we will always continue with light and love and all that our faith and culture teaches us. We will not be silenced, we will not give up, we will not disappear and we will not hate.
Please share, please educate, please love and forgive and talk and open your minds and please have empathy and undertanding, regardless of how different our views and opinions may be. We all matter and we should never let what happened 70 years ago happen to ANYBODY ever again.✌🏻
