Hearing similar stories over and over here at the arena vaccination site. The appointment website was infuriating and often non functional, but once they arrived at the arena folks say everything goes smoothly.
Well so much for that. As volume has increased dramatically, the vehicle line is stretching well into the nearby streets. The wait is well over an hour. Unclear at what point proof of appointment is being checked.
There is some severe confusion right now let me try to break down what I've learned in the last half hour or so from watching things happen on the ground.
At the entrance on Boone Ave, a handful of cops are trying their best to manage traffic. A CHAS worker is asking people in their cars whether they have an appointment, but right now it does not appear is asking for proof at that stage.
Many people are parking elsewhere and walking to the arena. This appears to be a faster option. Workers at the edges of the site are verifying appointments for these folks by checking their name against a list they have.
Once people arrive in the standing line outside the arena, workers are checking names against the list there as well. A few other workers are in the middle of the lot, checking names there as well. No appointment, no vaccine.
Some people have a screenshot of their appointment but are not on the list. It's unclear what happens to those people, but at the moment it appears they are NOT being allowed in to get the vaccine. I'm hearing they might only have enough vaccine for the people on the list.
Also unclear why people who have confirmation of their appointment would not end up on the list.
I've heard that dozens of people have showed up with only proof of their PhaseFinder eligibility, not an appointment, or signed up for a COVID test but thought it was for the vaccine. Those people are being turned away.
Things appear to be calming down now. The line is shorter and the traffic doesn't seem as backed up.
