Since people are talking about Joanne Rowling again

I think it's really useful to point out her open and pretty extreme fatphobia

And that fatphobia and transphobia have this undeniable link

in that where you see one you will VERY often see the other

I believe this has to do with the dehumanizing power of not only having a disgust response when it comes to other people's bodies

But the act of indulging in that disgust response-- like really getting in there and CHOOSING to roll around in it

Bodies are both wonderful and kind of nasty in equal measure, for literally everyone

But when it comes to fatphobia and transphobia, you see people like Joanne deciding to apply a broad lens of disgust to entire groups of people

And not to others

And there is a paranoia factor to this indulgence in the disgust as well

The "what if that was ME" response

This self-inflicted body horror paranoia feels so threatening to the Joannes that it must be violently expelled

At literally any cost

Probably this all goes back to fear, and probably a lot of it is fear of
d e a t h

Where stigmatized bodies must be ritually and publicly punished so that the 'Normal' Joannes can feel cleansed of their paranoia

And can forget their own fragile mortal bodies, for awhile

Once I made this connection, I started seeing it everywhere

Because it is extremely extremely common

I wish people had given a shit about the absolutely RANK fat hate in Joanne's books before...

Like maybe before she had accrued this banana bread level of power and capital

*sigh*

Fatphobia is the canary in the coal mine
