(At long last... Blueberry's much anticipated @basepaws DNA test is here! With some pretty surprising results...)
(This is her breed panel, set to the same certainty level as the info I posted for Coke Zero! As you can see she has a LOT more varied heritage than Conk did, and is more "Western" with some "Persian" breed heritage too! Her Wildcat Index was the same as Coke Zero's, however!) https://twitter.com/cokezerocat/status/1346225637166559239
(Probably the most surprising part of this was little tiny Bluebert having so much Maine Coon DNA! She is a runt, to be fair, but!?)
(Among the larger of Blueb's many breed percentages were some other vocal cats that do look a bit like Blueb. "Active, intelligent, and mischievous miniature cougar" definitely sum up Blueberry's behavior pretty well)
(This also sounds like Blueberry.)
(From miniature cougar to miniature leopard...)
(These were also surprising since Blueberry has a pretty long face compared to these rounder type faces... and she definitely couldn't be described as "laid back"! She does hate being picked up, though.)
(Overall though it looks like Blueberry has around 25% "vocal" breed heritage which makes a lot of sense and may explain the brrs somewhat! There's also a lot of "active" here which.... well...) https://twitter.com/brrbrrblueberry/status/1288546840263233536
(Although Coke Zero's DNA came back with no markers for health issues, it looks like Blueberry carries one copy of a gene for Factor XII deficiency. She has a vet checkup coming up soon, so we will bring this up as something to look out for in case she does develop this issue!)
(That doesn't mean she will definitely develop that specific health issue but we will be able to keep this in mind for her health moving forward since she does have a genetic marker for it!)
(Overall we were really surprised by these results! Since Blueberry was a feral kitten before we adopted her, that might explain why she has such a wide variation of breed heritage compared to Coke Zero, who came from a house, but it's really cool to see where her BR comes from!)
(Thanks again to @basepaws for sending these kits! Although Blueb's test was delayed slightly compared to Coke Zero's, we had great communication throughout the process and had a really fantastic experience learning about our cats! I really can't recommend it enough.)
