i grew up thinking success was getting a book deal, a record deal or a lump sum of money in exchange for my art.
success now is self-publishing music & literature on our own terms. success is taking care of our humxn needs & our artistic desires.
being self-made is a myth that individualism convinced us of.

we don’t just eat off our plates. we prep together. cook together. serve together. eat together. & make sure the table is set for the next meal.

capitalism will still pressure us to move in a way that’ll secure our bag, but as we carve the space to think critically about our values & integrity, we realize the bag is a stand-in for the true value of art.
trust, cooperation, imagination, divine reflections of the world within & around us.
patience, accountability, sincerity, ancestral ties to our craft & our expressions.

success is a dingy container for what matters to us.

instead of measuring your work against success or failure, measure your effort & intention against honesty & tangibility.
what good is success if your peoples can’t celebrate with you? what good is success if you’ve sacrificed what made art fun/revelatory to you? what good is success if it’s at the expense of others?
forget all that self-made nonsense. do what calls you. learn it. share it. teach it. make room for it to lead you into sustainable practices. make room for others to join you.
