What is kinks? Kinks can be describe as interest on unusual sexual practice from the common socially practiced by society as a whole. Other words that usually used to describe kinky is deviant or perverted.

So when we discuss kinks, we are mostly discussing sexual practice.
For example, bondage is a kink. It is a sexual interest on having your partner restrained and restrict the freedom of movement. So if you see someone being tied up, lack of freedom to move and you are aroused by that, it means you have bondage kink and you are most likely kinky.
There various of kinks, you can find some hefty list of kinks. From a light and soft kinkiness to a heavy and even considered as extreme ones. One thing need to be noted is each kink has its own inherent risks, either its physical, emotional or mental.
Fetish is somewhat different. Fetish is sexual interest on certain things, not the sexual practice but to a certain things such as latex clothing, high heels, lingerie, feet, etc. So its not a foot kink, its a foot fetish. I've seen a lot mixed up between kinks and fetish.
So if you are aroused seeing someone wearing or using something, you might just have a fetish. It's not a kink, it's a fetish. A fetish does not necessarily make you kinky, perverted or a sexual deviant.
In BDSM, the relationship is known as a dynamic because there is a power exchange between the submissive and the Dominant. Example of dynamics are Master/slave (M/s), Daddy Dom/little girl (DD/lg), Dominant/submissive (D/s) etc. These are dynamics, not kinks.
So when someone ask you about your kinks, it is not accurate to answer with Master/slave or DD/lg. It's not. Instead you can answer with the perverted sexual practice that you have interest in, such as anal, spanking, wax play, bondage etc.
In each dynamics, there are roles which explain your characteristic in the dynamic. DD/lg consist a Dominant with a daddy characteristic and a submissive with a little girl characteristic. That also applies to Master/slave, Dom/sub, Owner/pet and many other type of dynamics.
Now I am not going to pretend to understand what it means when someone say soft kinks or hard kinks, simply because I dont. Each kinks can be light or intense even extreme so I dont quite get how to categorize a kink as soft or hard.
For example, impact play as a kink can be practice lightly such as spanking or slapping. But can be practice intensely using belt or paddle, or even extremely which is a lot more painful than the previously mentioned. So can you say impact play as soft kink or hard kink?
So yeah, there you have it. A brief explanation of kinks, fetish, BDSM dynamics and roles.
