2/n Before the detail, let's remember:
> @wandbc council, run by @wandsworth Tories, wants to create a new "walking & cycling strategy" thru to 2030;
> Meanwhile, @wandsworth Tories, are petitioning to rip out #Streetspace & #CS7 #A24 cycle lane.

> Meanwhile, @wandsworth Tories, are petitioning to rip out #Streetspace & #CS7 #A24 cycle lane.
3/n The ctte paper on the walking & cycling strategy is typical of several published recently by @wandbc : lots of aspiration, nice words about inclusive process ... with no targets or dates by which actions will be completed.
4/n Appendix, with actions from Wandsworth Council's 2016-2020 cycling strategy:
> cycle network: there's a wealth of analysis & reports, collecting dust;
> LCDS, and #HealthyStreets standards
Wandsworth's Tories would happily ignore both, given sits with #LTNs and #CS7

> Cycling contraflows: Wandsworth Council has been fannying about for SEVEN YEARS, and done *three*.
> The contraflow on Twilley Street was removed, because the council declined to install a design safe for all road users;
We'll get to #Quietways below.

6/n Cycling contraflows: I first wrote about Wandsworth Council's lack of progress three years ago in March 2018 ... and next to no progress has been made since https://lastnotlost.wordpress.com/2018/03/03/wandscontras/
7/n #Quietway routes, Wandsworth Council hiding behind TfL's changes to programme status and funding, but it has years to complete #QW4 and #QW5 .. and failed:
> #QW4 #Q4 still has the "Earlsfield Gap", and Magdalen Road fails any #20mph test;
> #QW5 #Q5 now dead at Toot Common.
> #QW4 #Q4 still has the "Earlsfield Gap", and Magdalen Road fails any #20mph test;

8/n #Quietway routes:
> 2018's #Q21 #QW21 .. effectively dead, with just a contraflow installed on Roehampton High Street.
It was a weak scheme, failed LCDS in several places, and wouldn't satisfy today's #StreetSpace and cycling network quality criteria https://twitter.com/lastnotlost/status/1006967940539928577?s=20

9/n ** PRIORY LANE KLAXON **, N/E of Richmond Park's Roehampton Gate.
> so, the latest excuse for doing next-to-nothing since 2019 (attached) is The Royal Park's movement strategy. https://twitter.com/lastnotlost/status/1121408776672821248?s=20

10/ There's good concept designs for Garratt Lane and Queenstown Road, from consultants WSP (attached).
The approved proposals have the same design features - segregated cycle tracks - which Tory councillors want to rip out from #TfL's #CS7 #A24 scheme.

11/ Cycle parking in Wandsworth:
> Finally, SEVEN YEARS after approving a bike hanger plan in February 2014 (blog post linked above), the council has started to install some - up to 21 by Dec'2020.
Some one else can compare progress with e.g. EV charging points ...

12/ Wandsworth & hire bikes:
> Santander scheme continues year-on-year increases, but the network footprint has not grown.
> Like most boroughs, other hire bike schemes have come and gone, not helped by Cllr Cook describing the early schemes as "a plague".

13/ Something London councils do well, Wandsworth included, is using #TfL funds for #BikeAbility training for kids and adults.
Sadly, cycling mode share for kids travelling to school in Wands is low single figures ... not helped by absence of high-quality cycle routes & LTNs

14/ Rest of the strategy is low volume stuff: like encouraging active travel for staff, promoting biz cargo-bikes etc.
So what's the betting that Wandsworth Council will cut-and-paste another similar strategy (by a unspecified date), and then do little thru to 2030?
