1. I have a new essay on what @michaelemann climate war is really about. Reader's digest version: it's not about either science or climate action but reinforcing affective environmental identity. https://thebreakthrough.org/articles/the-folly-of-mann
2. Mann was badly harrassed and mistreated after Climategate. But since then, the abused scientist has become an abusive bully, reducing all of climate politics to friends and enemies lists and trafficking in falsehoods and misrepresentations about latter. https://thebreakthrough.org/articles/letter-to-michael-mann
3. That doesn't just include @TheBTI . It includes decorated scientists like @KenCaldeira, Kerry Emanuel, Tom Wigley, @DKeithClimate, and David Victor. @BillGates, advocates for nuclear, carbon capture, and reducing methane emissions from natural gas, all part of FF conspiracy.
4. In @michaelemann Manichean climate war, nuclear, CCS, adaptation, carbon removal advocates are inseparable from ALEC, Koch Brothers, Big Oil. All of the former are at best dupes and at worst shills.
5. Mann is a fine climate scientist, but his actual knowledge of any of political, technological, or economic challenges associated with decarbonization is limited. His sources are all at best secondary.
7. Real point of Mann's "new" climate war is to reinscribe the old war onto every technology and policy pathway that might disrupt it. There is one TRUE path, where climate science and green ideological preferences are one and same. Everything else is denial or false solutions.
8. That doesn't actually serve practical efforts to advance climate action. Over last decade, @michaelemann climate war has been abject failure. Public concern about climate change stands exactly where it was in 2007/2008, only vastly more polarized.
9. We just finished 4 years with an unapologetic climate denier, not a purveyor of "false" solutions in White House. While @michaelemann claims to have been winning the "old" climate war, denialists weren't banished, they were literally elevated to high office.
10. But none of that matters to @michaelemann or his followers, because for them, what is paramount is defending environmental identity, enforcing ideological discipline, and not incidentally, placing Mann, literally, at the center of it.
11. That's why @michaelemann knowingly traffics in false claims. Because the tribe that he panders to laps it up, because the stenography project that passes for environmental journalism won't call him on it, and because everyone else is too afraid of tribe to do so. FIN
UPDATE

12. In response to my essay, @michaelemann continues to promote disinformation about @thebti, linking to an @sourcewatch page that is wildly inaccurate and hasn't been updated in almost a decade. And yet, enviro journos continue the fawning, uncritical coverage.
UPDATE 2

13. James Hansen say publicly what his colleagues will not. @michaelemann is an ideologue and a Democratic Party hype man. https://twitter.com/DrJamesEHansen/status/1354886422524788737
14. But bullying works. Lots of DMs and emails from prominent science journalists privately sharing their thoughts about @micheaelemann but admitting they are, in the words of one, "too chickenshit" to say it publicly. A sampling...
Update 3:

15. Now @michaelemann is complaining that HE is being blocked by @sapinker, which is... just fantastic...
