Many people today have told me that I can't possibly consider myself #socialist because I don't treat everybody with kindness, 100% of the time and 'how can you be a socialist then?'

Let me enlighten them, for the avoidance of future doubt and inane questioning:
To somebody who truly believes in lifting up everybody in society, in supporting and enabling them, the cold winds of classism, bigotry, xenophobia, transphobia and ableism blow really fucking hard. Every day. They carve you into the shape you need to fight back. An icicle...
It takes a hell of a lot of strength to be able to call out your family and/or friends, when those moments come. It takes effort to ask your colleagues not to laugh at the ideas of a socialist manifesto, worrying about the impact on your career and progression...
To call out misinformation where you find it and to challenge a status quo that allows most to sit in blissful ignorance while you fight for rights they only appreciate once taken from them.

The 'hard left' are partaking in hard graft. We pay attention, we see what's to lose...
So, if you see me calling somebody out for making a mockery of everything I strive for, or if I'm telling a bigot to fuck off, or if I'm having a day where I just seem a little too angry for your taste...
Consider that my anger is born of my intense desire for a better society for you and for everybody else, whittled to a fine point. An icicle. When the time comes, I'll use it to defend you, too...
That aside, I have an ocean of love in me, for peoples of all nations, upbringings, physicalities, colours and religions.

But if somebody, some awful person wants to diminish my efforts for all? They won't get the ocean. They'll get the icicle.

Solidarity ❤️
