Oh fuck no.

In addition to all the obvious (teachers don't kill, teachers don't get the pay or the budgets police do, etc.), this tweet assumes that other unions function like police unions do, and protect their members from all accountability. And this *simply is not the case* https://twitter.com/ARossP/status/1354244580112216071
You know how when a police officer does something real bad, they'll sometimes get put on paid administrative leave and then come back to work after it all blows over?

That doesn't *happen* in most other professions
In most other professions that I've seen, getting put on paid administrative leave after some kind of misconduct means you are *about to be fired*
It essentially means, "you have done something so bad that it is a risk even having you on the premises. We are going to fire you, just stay home until we draft the paperwork to do that."
Unions other than police unions often do not generally fight to get you reinstated after you've been fired for misconduct!
I'm not saying no other union has ever done these things ever; I'm saying that the way unions and police misconduct are covered in the news makes it sound like this is the absolute norm in unions, and it simply is not.
And very importantly, by and large, most other unions don't have anything even close to the amount of power that police unions do!
So I'm not saying there's no issues within other unions, I'm saying:

1. I'm less concerned with the issues as a societal problem than I would be if unions had more power
2. The critique of teacher's unions (and other unions) is not being brought up in good faith
The reason we are talking about teachers' unions right now is because they are being portrayed as the problem for not wanting teachers and students to go back to in-person schooling in the middle of a pandemic.
