You know what's one of the biggest tells that someone is actually an expert on something? When they get to something they don't know, they tell you. Knowledge and ignorance are not necessarily opposites. The more you know the more you know you don't know. https://twitter.com/mimicofmodes/status/1354178924599791617
I know this isn't new (or news). The opposite even has a name (the Dunning-Kruger Effect). It perhaps sounds simple but I really do think it's nonetheless profound. It was one of the most important lessons I learned as an undergrad. Rather than undercut, it buttresses legitimacy.
The amazing thing about academics, scholars, and other experts is that when they don't know something, they can also (and often do, as in this case) explain how and why they don't know something (thus demonstrating what they do know, and showing how knowledge itself works).
