1/n I'm beyond thrilled to announce that @RaygunIcecream has asked me to lead one of the books for #RoamBookClub3 along with @beauhaan;

Your team is currently hard at work designing what we believe will be an extraordinary 6 week learning experience for our beloved #roamcult -->
2/n There will be 2 groups working side by side - Beau will lead a discussion of Ahrens' "How to Take Smart Notes" and I'll lead, for returning members, "The Culture Code" by Dan Coyle.

My group will have a limited number of spots. Beau's group will not be size-limited.
3/n if you are unable to join the Coyle group (enrollment has to be capped, sorry) don't worry; you can still follow along; my plan is to live tweet + carry our discussion out to Twitter

Furthermore, the plan is to bring you more "episodes".

This is just the beginning!
4/n as a "teaser", I want to share what I've been working on - the 1st principles I plan to keep in mind as we develop the project further.

Expect more updates soon!

Follow @RoamBookClub, @RaygunIcecream, and @beauhaan to stay part of this discussion, if you haven't already!
6/n This: https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1354479352776335364
7/n and also This: https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1354479715701035011
8/n A quick behind-the-scenes moment as @beauhaan and I talk, on the Slack, about how the two groups that we are leading, can (and will) complement each other.

I'll write more about this later, I am sure,

(it's too long to unpack right now...but you'll hear more about this!)
9/n Alexandrian Design, in a nutshell:

1. Iterate
2. When things work, strengthen them
3. When they don't, reflect on how to strengthen them
4. Always invite more life and vibrancy into the room

This is at the heart of all my thinking about our next 6 weeks of @RoamBookClub
10/n pure truth right here.

As @DocAyomide says,

"Connection over collection" https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1355154184878706700?s=19
11/n Definitely feeling this energy, as we get everything ready for kickoff tomorrow.

Guys, I think #RoamBookClub3 is going to be 🔥🔥🔥

I can FEEL it.

@RaygunIcecream, @beauhaan, and a crew working behind the scenes.

https://twitter.com/ashishbhateja/status/1355422686097399808?s=19

Teamwork makes the dream work!
12/n what's most exciting to me is that we (RBC team) are literally building a LIQUID NETWORK (shoutout to RBC 1, where we read one of @Conaw's favorite books "Where Good Ideas Come From")

First we read about it

Now we're putting it into practice

Cc: @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream
13/n in the behind-the scenes conversations with folks including @roamhacker , @brandontoner , @DharamKapila , @CharlesSimsFarr , @CatoMinor3 , @beauhaan , @RaygunIcecream and others ...

We are unfolding a live process of bringing diverse perspectives and expertise into the room
14/n the synergy of thoughts and talents, as we tackle the challenge of "how do we build the best book club experience possible" for #RoamBookClub3, is nothing short of inspiring

Cc @RaygunIcecream @beauhaan
15/ going to add this great tweet and thread from @rjnestor, because he articulates so well, one of the principles I want to infuse in RBC 3.0 :

"Follow the OOMPH"

That gut feeling you have as a writer, when you're onto something https://twitter.com/rjnestor/status/1355239846638444546?s=19
16/n I AM SO EXCITED GUYS - just wrote the first Zettelquestion into our graph!

This is at the absolute heart of my vision for RBC 3.0

I want to elevate Zettelquestions to 1st class status of @RoamResearch use

Thrilled to be planning this wi @beauhaan and @RaygunIcecream ...
17/n been working on the outline of #RoamBookClub3 most of the day today; troubleshooting little things with @beauhaan ;

Thinking a lot, in these final stages of preparation, about

"Perfection happens not when nothing more can be added, it's when nothing more can be taken away"
18/n there's a beautiful moment in preparing for any kind of group session whether it's a meeting or a lesson plan

You plan and plan and write and write, it gets bigger and more complicated,

Until suddenly it starts to get simpler and simpler

I love that moment!
19/n one of the fun things about working with @beauhaan is hearing him say "I AM GLAD YOU ASKED"

this official Beau quote, which is also a tribute to his thougthfulness and dedication as a teacher, is now a part of the Roam Book Club 3 instructions page (for the Coyle Cohort):
20/n And we're off! The adventure has started ...

Despite some technical "bumps" which we are faithfully + dutifully committed to resolving, we've laid out our road map and we're ready to start working together!

This first week, we will have writing prompts in the graph -->
21/n ... each day, as we establish our relationships with some of the main themes of the book. We're going to reconvene next week and my group will be discussing chapters 1-4 of Dan Coyle's book.

I'm excited by people's energy and eager to see what we can create together!
22/n Haha I just realized we have TWO "leading edges" of graph activity because of the international date line! ( @beauhaan you're going to see this, too ...)

We're GLOBAL, friends!

Committing to writing TWO daily updates each day, for both sides of the international date line.
23/n by the way a huge THANK YOU to all for bearing with us through some technical + set up difficulties

It is the nature of ambitious projects to encounter unforeseen obstacles

We're committed to making things work for everybody, and improving along the way.
24/ I AM SO EXCITED GUYS PEOPLE ARE RESPONDING TO THE WRITING PROMPT IN THE GRAPH - WOO HOO !!!

Check out that magic number "10", it means 10 people have already written in - and it is like 5.40AM here in California - but did I mention we have participants from around the globe?
25/n but wait there's more! What a joy it is to read these thoughtful, carefully considered responses!

DAMN I feel like Aladdin walking --> treasure cave

To get this kind of collective willingness to consider, to engage, to write - EXACTLY what I was hoping for

Thanks guys!
26/ an (admittedly slightly niche) use-case for "∆" :

Keep a message that "surfs" along, 1 day ahead of me, as a message for the folks on the other side of the international date line: (need to set the "increment", 2nd variable, to "+0" instead of "+2", for a constant interval)
27/ PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION

this wonderful quote comes from book club participant @markmcelroy

I love these words so much, I am seriously considering getting a tattoo (elegant, cursive script)

Whether or not that happens, might be unofficial motto #2 of my RBC cohort...
28/ IT'S HAPPENING! https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1356359792621547522?s=20
29/ thanks for the signal-boost, @elaptics ! https://twitter.com/elaptics/status/1356012936800718857?s=19
30/n Surfing the wave! I LOVE it

Folks are engaging with the shared graph of #RoamBookClub3 in beautiful, authentic, and meaningful ways, + their writing "seeds" each day's discussion prompt! My subconscious mind is listening for themes, and finding resonance with participants.
31/n It works because people are taking RISKS -

They are daring to be authentic in a semi-public setting.

I think this is multiplayer @RoamResearch, at its potential BEST.

It's not a thing apart form community, it's a catalyst for community if used "right".

Stay tuned!!!
32/n THIS (see below) - a living, breathing "graph"-

Why? b/c of [[Christopher Alexander]] (cc: @francis_miller and @Conaw ... )

We are aiming for nothing short of the "Quality Without A Name" ... aka QWAN.

This is the ❤️of what we are aiming for. https://twitter.com/z9sx7wox/status/1356657318994333697?s=20
33/n Thanks so much, Tali!

This means so much to me, to @beauhaan , to @RaygunIcecream + the whole team of organizers at @RoamBookClub -

We are all so grateful and excited, to see the early levels of engagement that we're seeing!!! ❤️ #RoamBookClub3 https://twitter.com/talilerner/status/1356725755879845888?s=20
34/n I just wrote a [[Zettel]] - ENTIRELY INSPIRED by the activity of our GROUP.

"Being a part of a group is a *healing* process, b/c, in the process of aligning with the group's "Dreams, Needs + Ambitions" we are liberated from the potential prison of internal pre-occupation"
35/ It's weird to say the "group" wrote this - but it's also entirely true.

I feel as if the clarity of this only emerged 4 me from reading what a number of ppl wrote into the graph.

It's an astonishing feeling to allow the group to push you to clarify, to amend, personalize.
36/ This AM, diving into writing up tips + tricks for using the word + char count features in @RoamResearch + I REALLY appreciate how writing this up solidifies my own understanding of how they work.

To attempt to teach something is, first and foremost, to commit to learn it.
37/ OK I have to show this to you guys because I think it's really exciting.

@iamvincenttam wrote a great obs'vn into our multiplayer roam, about how he learned from karaoke that being willing to "icebreak" - by being the 1st person to sing - helped *others* with their anxiety
38/ + then he connected it what makes WRITING feel more easeful, which is: it's easier to write when you KNOW that you'!re helping someone wi your writing.

I, in turn, realized - this feels like a "Zettel" to me - so I made it one! ... building on what HE wrote. multiplayer FTW!
39/ And the NEXT step was to create a QUESTION - an umbrella question if you will, or "Zettel Question" - in other words WHY was Vincent's observation important? What was the underlying vital question that made it feel significant?

This is the part that I am excited about!
40/ My feeling about that is, it "felt" important because it provided one clear answer to the bigger question of "What are the conditions under which creative flow in writing, anyway?" - might be only ONE PART - but it sure feels important.

So now we are on a bigger "quest"!
41/ So in essence, we "pivoted" from a statement, to a question - thereby expanding our scope

We've generated a new "focal point for thought", which, really, is what #Zettelquestions are intended to be.

PROOF. OF. CONCEPT.

So excited! Thx @iamvincenttam for the inspiration!
Man!

Just the sheer level of INSIGHT from our multiplayer graph!

So many people are surfacing layers to our book and questions, that I just did not see when I read it on my own!

Cc: @beauhaan , @RaygunIcecream , @RoamBookClub , #RoamBookClub3
43/ I was so excited/happy I forgot to number that, then I saw it was # FORTY TWO

"Roaman Lore":

This is a special number to #roamcult for *at least* 3 reasons

1. Douglas Adams
2. The school where co-founders @Conaw and @hashbrown490 met
3. The amazing work of @Roamhacker
44/n If you don't know the story behind #2 - read this, because it's fascinating

https://twitter.com/Conaw/status/1301047277067235328?s=20

... and furthermore, you might even sense some resonances with the "perform under stress" tests Coyle describes later in our book (in the part about Navy SEALS training.)
45/ Julie Freyburg ( @ahh_morning) said something, in response to one of our group-writing prompts, that really resonated with me:

"Perfectionism is a particular kind of distortion, of the field of possibility"

Thanks, Julie!
46/n hey guys pls correct if I'm wrong

but I believe that's an early simple #astrolabe in the Flammarion engraving, top left

A simpler model, but its 2 axes suggest it's a model of the universe

47/n PREACH it, brother Brandon!

https://twitter.com/brandontoner/status/1357336500233502720?s=19
48/ an analogy for how I think @RoamBookClub might continue to grow:

A cell, differentiating through mitosis in a pluripotent way, giving rise to specialized cells

But sharing the basic DNA of the community

@RaygunIcecream
@thepericulum https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1357338294715965444?s=19
49/ taking inspiration from @beauhaan , the Coyle group will be adding #[[Today I Learned]] as a first class hashtag on our graph.

Details to be announced this Sunday!

#cross_pollination
50/n really appreciate the detailed, thoughtful feedback I got from both @brandontoner and @ahh_morning this week in zoom calls talking about "meeting structure" ideas

Great wisdom in our community

Thanks, Julie and Brandon, for your insights!
51/n p.s. good luck at the curling tournament, Brandon!
52/n Might try this (see 53) in book club - thx for the idea Brandon!

What if it was in a place that was block referenced so that all user ID's could be seen together?

What if it was an attribute and then you could have an {{attr}} table, maybe? Everyone's status in real time?
53/n idea from @brandontoner (relevant discussion, see 52/n above) https://twitter.com/brandontoner/status/1357423625327026194?s=20
54/n Well, well, well

It turns out you can pipe one entire Roam graph *inside* another using {{iframe: }} - embedded one works @ full speed once loaded (slight loading delay, startup only)

Here's an iframe of our book club page WITHIN my personal graph. (CSS for border, size.).
55/n To clarify - the previous tweet just shows one graph, in the purple rectangle, displayed from within ANOTHER graph.

There's a slight delay when I land on the page as it loads, but once loaded, it appears to be fully functional.

Interestingly, this allows you to -->
56/ --> use the sidebar, especially if you move it to the midpoint, to have functionally two graphs open, at the same time on your screen.

(Though of course, their links remain separated - it's more like a "portal" than anything else)
57/n

SESSION 2 in 8 hours + I'm already excited!

Introducing a really big "Zettelquestion" today!

I feel like an early hunter who located a woolly mammoth, + is bringing it to a dance party wi my tribe

Also, excited to see what we can do wi/ @beauhaan 's zettel architecture
58/n Ryan, we could not agree more!

100% yes.

This is the underlying "deep project" of @RoamBookClub

60/n

Thanks so much for the shoutout, @elaptics !

@beauhaan and I are delighted to have you on board in @RoamBookClub https://twitter.com/elaptics/status/1358550834506829831?s=19
61/n love this idea from @billpetro

Future @RoamBookClub (s) could function as the seeds of "interest communities"/guilds

By working through a book of communal interest, a community creates the working methods it needs for its own kinds of discussions https://twitter.com/billpetro/status/1358519161123528705?s=19
62/n One of the reasons I'm really excited this week, is - I think we've got our conventions and processes now into pretty coherent form

Which means I can shift gears from planning, layout, structure

To the purer joy of simply writing + exploring in our group @RoamResearch
63/n love having you on board, @Dramagirl !

Heartfelt thanks from me, @beauhaan and @RaygunIcecream for all you contribute! https://twitter.com/Dramagirl/status/1358698392377991172?s=19
64/n Haha I had no idea at the outset that I'd be starting to formulate a feminist critique of our chosen book

Yet HERE WE ARE

sometimes you just have to go where group energy leads you

If you're not doing that it's not a real adventure

Discovery means looking for the edges
65/n SECOND proposed official motto of book club

"Anything worth reading once, is worth reading 2ce, + the 2nd time, along with a large group of people"

... I'm seeing SO much more in this book - strengths AND weaknesses - than I saw the 1st time

Cc: @RoamBookClub @beauhaan
66/n Amazing RADIO interview on NPR: Deirdre Fischel, Police Sgt. Alice White ... "Women Police Officers, how they police differently"

100 percent resonance with the themes of our book...

Can't WAIT to write about it, in our shared graph!

SERENDIPITY

Life --> graph --> life
67/n I'm just amazed by the thought-organizing ideas that we're making in our graph!

@maggied stepping up + organizing our Zettels

Mike Kramer (sadly, not on Twitter) starting to create an Argument Map, to augment our Book Map

@fio_condutor proposing a claim/subclaim structure
68/n This is powerful stuff (see above)

This could generalize in so many amazing ways. When I was in med school, there was a prevailing culture of individual students locking themselves into cubicles to study.

The group, together, can be so very much more powerful than that.
69/n I feel as if the things that I am seeing in our @RoamBookClub, could be the basis of a sea-change in group education.

It's not just book clubs... I want to see entire remote-learning schools organized this way, one day...

cc: @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream @thepericulum
70/n interesting thoughts from @rossopeter_ about Zetteling fiction (which a formal @RoamBookClub has not tried yet)

Worth nothing the emotional layer is also 100% worth tracking in your OWN personal writing, though, a latent superpower of @RoamResearch https://twitter.com/rossopeter_/status/1357603049448083456?s=19
71/n one of my guiding thoughts for @RoamBookClub is what I'll just call "activating the personal layer"

That is: there is an algorithmic layer to thought which is very powerful;

But inspiration + creativity also occur in a deeper way, and guided by emotion;

This, too matters.
72/n let me rephrase a little

There are places within us, that are more powerful than thought or language

Those places sometimes move us to build, create + do

Thought or language is not the prime mover of this process, but nonetheless can guide us to where the process begins.
73/n HOLY HOCKEY STICKS, ITS HAPPENING HERE

Logged onto the group graph this morning
Seeing spontaneous experiment proposals
Got a couple GREAT writing prompt suggestions from members

A "knowledge workshop", coming to life! Such fun.

74/n (... for those who don't know about "Soul Train" ...

People take turns going down the avenue of cheering friends, adding their own distinct vibe and moves to the mix each time

It's one of those amazing examples of [[group creativity]] that everybody should know about...)
75/n Bookmarking this for @RoamBookClub because microcommunications and "belonging cues" are a big part of the early chapters of Coyle's book

thank you @MamanLunettes for this awesome example. ❤️

78/n Shoutout to Andy Henson a.k.a. @elaptics for

79/n vintage @beauhaan right here -

This is why he's such a great writing coach - he KNOWS that everyone has to climb their own mountain.

https://twitter.com/beauhaan/status/1359333187349061634?s=20
80/n OK guys, might have a working prototype for @RoamBookClub multi user conversations - put this together, wi/ big assists from @CatoMinor3

Conversation is between me and Walt Whitman, with photo avatars, + color changes to denote who is typing

cc: @RaygunIcecream @beauhaan
81/n Definitely feeling this Tamagotchi energy from Roamer Jasmine, who writes:

"I generally just love the way @RoamResearch is like a living thing, haven’t been this into tending to something since Tamagotchis"

That's exactly what growing the @RoamBookClub graph feels like ...
82/n What, in some ways, is the "Big Secret" I feel like @beauhaan and @RaygunIcecream and I are really seeing is that multiplayer @RoamResearch Roams like @RoamBookClub don't just optimize for collective THOUGHT

They have the potential to optimize for collective WISDOM

-->
83/n I make this distinction very consciously ...

The *individual* may well get to have a "second brain"-like feeling, with a well designed Memex -

But the TRUE magic is that a community can discover a sense of collective ❤️and in synchrony + that's where *wisdom* begins.
84/n ❤

Thanks so much Tali! This feels so great to hear! https://twitter.com/talilerner/status/1359849237148762112?s=19
85/n the true strength of @RoamBookClub is in what its members bring to the table ...

@Dramagirl is one of our RBCers who brings generosity and wisdom with her

Her recent ii theme also happens to be a RBC theme... emotions are at the root of creativity https://twitter.com/Dramagirl/status/1359625818272534529?s=19
86/n

Congratulations on your first ii salon, Kate aka @Dramagirl!

87/n SOMEONE WROTE THIS IN THEIR DIARY AND IT MADE MY DAY

(I'm keeping them anonymous because they wrote it for our group, not for my Twitter feed)

But this is so cool - this is what risk-taking is like - and when people are willing to risk, miracles can happen.

cc: @beauhaan
88/n Great discussion (IMHO) on our daily page today about how "fostering diversity" links up with the broader project of "community knowledge management" - wi shoutouts to a prev. book we read, + to the @RoamResearch icon itself ...

cc: @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream @thepericulum
89/n HOT OF THE PRESSES folks,

an example of live Zettelkasten, borrowing from what we developed in Book Club 2, + with some *new* touches I've added.

Not only is this kind of thinking exciting, it's genuinely FUN

cc @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream @RoamBookClub @thepericulum
90/n Why is there a little "chick" there hatching out of an egg with the word "Pief!"?

IGYA

Einstein is said to have once said "A new idea is like a chick hatching. Pief! Und einmal ist da"

Pief!

Suddenly there it is.

When you get clarity it's often spontaneous. Unforced.
91/n This is a critical point because it helps to understand why Zettelkasten writing is *different*.

You're not trying to "force" or "grind out" your inspirations or conclusions.

- but simply laying the conditions in which they can happen.

And happen they DO!

cc: @beauhaan
92/n shoutout to @RoamBookClub member Darin for being the first (AFAIK in our shared graph) to put

[[be your own damn self]]

in square brackets. I love this!

And also ...

So true.

(Would you not agree, @beauhaan + @RaygunIcecream ? Is that not one fine Zettel right there?)
93/n "Emergent Group Design" at its best -

What is happening as a result of the collective contributions to our @RoamBookClub, could be the basis of a paper on [[Christopher Alexander]]

Ppl are adding LIFE to the graph wi their ideas!

@fio_condutor suggested this format -->
94/n Combine this wi/ "live" experiments proposed by Mike Kramer, @maggied , + others -

we have a rapidly evolving format here, evokes associations for me with the legendary "Building 20" at MIT, that we read about in RBC 1.0.

Pushing the envelope on multiplayer @RoamResearch
95/n Umm, GEE GUYS, I THINK THERE MIGHT BE SOME KIND OF A THEME HERE ...

(... how about try "Only Connect", as E.M. Forster stated was his motto)

(screenshot is from RBC 2.0)

cc @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream @thepericulum @RoamBookClub @RoamResearch
96/n the above, I stumbled across, because I was looking for this, from @Fiddlehed -

which brings up something else amazing about the @RoamBookClub

We are optimizing for [[collective memory]]

This is the part that gives me goosebumps!

-->Many of you know @RoamResearch -->
97/n --> is an optimization engine, for retrieving things for individuals, based on their personal significance.

What we are aiming at in @RoamBookClub is an ORDER OF MAGNITUDE more powerful

It's that - but for COMMUNITIES.

cc: @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream @thepericulum
98/n which is part of the reason I chose "The Culture Code" for one group in RBC 3.0 - it helps give us some framings, to start to build out, to this "next-level use" of connected graphs.

What I am seeing ALREADY - and we are barely halfway done - is already amazing.

JUST WAIT.
99/n Coming soon to a @RoamBookClub near you!!! https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1360350039667744770?s=20
100/n I feel as if this snapshot-view of Dharam's new Roam Portal emoticon-search, nicely summarizes this moment in time - with its three precepts of slightly varying intensity ...

cc: @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream @thepericulum @RoamBookClub @RoamResearch
101/n Gonna resurface this great quote from Michael Nielsen here:

"A basketball and a hoop are simple pieces of equipment ... but you can spend a lifetime, learning to use them well"

For context, he was not talking about @RoamResearch , but the analogy applies perfectly -->
102/n I can keep saying this 'til the cows come home - it's not necessary to make things COMPLICATED, to make them POWERFUL

In fact, the opposite ...

The key: Roaman writing, + Zettelkasting in general, are powerfully amplified, by simple, yet artful practices.

cc: @beauhaan
103/n 100% agree with @beauhaan

There's a regrettable misconception that if you are Zetteling there's a magic ascendancy from muddy useless fleeting note to lofty exalted evergreen heights

But the fleeting notes are the HEART of a vibrant notebook ... https://twitter.com/beauhaan/status/1360465506952765440?s=19
104/n THIS!

@FiddleHed writes about exactly what I too discovered -

#Zettelquestions ensure that a notebook remains vibrant and alive

Life floods into us through the cracks of what we do not yet know or understand.

Questions open space for curiosity, wonder, + awe.

❤️
105/n I was so excited to discover this in graph today that I'm retweeting it just so that I can cc: @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream @thepericulum @RoamBookClub + @RoamResearch because yes, I think it's THAT important to amplify the above (104) observation from @FiddleHed ...

👆👆👆
106/n ... the broader challenge of navigating an uncertain universe, partly by learning to tolerate our own uncertainties, has been a topic of concern to philosophers + writers for centuries; the poet John Keats coined the term "Negative Capacity" in 1817 to describe how -->
107/n ... we must stumble through the valley of uncertainty to reach the palace of wisdom ...

On a deeper level it is known to all artists, who must tolerate the slow, intuitive emergence of new work.

"Some things must be believed in order to be seen"

Questions are the GUIDE.
108/n I gotta say this - + I'll say it again and again and again ... if you're doing it right, it feels like FUN

There's a spirit of PLAY that @soenke_ahrens describes in "HTTSM" - @beauhaan "gets it" - I get it - @fio_condutor gets it ... and I think we want everyone to see it
109/n good conversations - playful
successful art - playful
even serious topics can be playful
(maybe even HAVE to be, to engage others)
your notes - playful

110/n I want to reiterate this ... if you visit our graph, all you need to do is dip your toes in the water and you'll still get value

People like @maggied and @fio_condutor and Mike K are swimming laps

You don't have to start there ...

Just "splashing" is fun.

111/n random Saturday morning fleeting note, that relates to both our book, and our broader project: https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1360605748632252417?s=19
112/n super useful little practical tip for writers - make [[???]] into its own hashtag + highlight with custom CSS

(Partly inspired by @MatMcGann 's [[blahblahblah]] idea)

You're writing, fast - you need a placeholder - and dropping THIS link means you can circle back later...
113/n elaborating slightly - I KNOW I want to come back and identify the "placeholder" link, but I don't want to be [[distracted]] in the moment ...

I drop a [[???]] and that means I can find ALL such places, to then go back and "clean up" later ...

cc: @beauhaan
114/n also, though, something ELSE that is cool?

In a multiplayer graph anyone ELSE can step in and do that cleanup on other people's ??? ... if they feel like it.

Team Work makes the Dream Work
115/n. 100% THIS

https://twitter.com/fio_condutor/status/1360636795726217220?s=19
116/n these kinds of nonverbal "belonging cues" are so vital to our discussion of community, and @MamanLunettes describes them SO astutely...

Thanks, V.K. !!! https://twitter.com/MamanLunettes/status/1360639224232501251?s=19
117/ gonna add this here, because it's SO important and is the foundation of my strong opinion that #Zettelquestions are at the heart of group processes and multiplayer in general... https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1360645536236281864?s=19
118/ @beauhaan and @RaygunIcecream and I are watching graph views with @DharamKapila ... who is giving us a pre-demo of #RoamPortal , his amazing search tool ...

We're SEEING people writing into our @RoamBookClub graphs ... IN REAL TIME ...

Man, this is so much fun!

🔥🔥🔥
119/n Your book club hosts, @beauhaan and I, both have a repertoire of secret abilities that will be only be revealed further, in due fullness of time -

Furthermore we're here, partly because we want to surface YOUR secret abilities ...

https://twitter.com/beauhaan/status/1360710076869341189?s=19
120/n ... taking a moment to read in-graph feedback, and just ... WOW

Thanks so much @markmcelroy

This means the world to me

cc: @beauhaan , @RaygunIcecream , @thepericulum
121/n full disclosure, feedback also includes some constructive suggestions, but MAN, they are so thoughtful, clear, + constructive in the truest possible sense -

I love this community.

Even the constructive feedback illuminates the adjacent possible.
122/n I had a dream last night, that I could build a floating sculpture in the sky

Within the sculpture was a room with chairs set up for dialogue,

When the dialogue started, the whole sculpture started to grow and change shape

Pretty sure it was @RoamBookClub in the dream
123/n We love your energy, commitment, and enthusiasm, @nettesblog !

(I've found writing is like any other form of exercise, when you hit the sweet spot it feels good, and you want to keep doing it!)

124/n just dropping this here: https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1361324508850741249?s=19
125/n in fact, I imagine many scientists working at the edges of their fields are already somewhat isolated -

Ergo;

"Social belonging cues" may end up being even MORE important to them, for exactly that reason -

Any sociologists of science out there, care to comment?
126/n (notable exception to the above, Richard Feynman,

who is said to have loved leaving his study door open and working while house parties were happening at his home...)

Here he is playing his beloved drums ...
127/n

"Build a marshmallow tower"

Is now officially part of the group lexicon, in my mind ...
128/n Zettels appearing in-graph, this one from @JoBBurt , are the "pief! ... und einmal ist da" moment -

Quote is from Einstein, who described emerging ideas like hatching chicks -

"peep! ... and suddenly ... it's there."

130/n SUPER interesting to revisit this thread from Azlen about 9 mo's later, wi/ 3 iterations of @RoamBookClub under our belts

Each time refining the model -

One thing is clear - real relationships between ppl matter.

Even - ESPECIALLY - on Zoom. https://twitter.com/azlenelza/status/1269696508804268032?s=20
131 / n

Love this, Josh!

"A cohort based course isn't some magic sauce you sprinkle on something" ...

You need a community to make this work.

132/n if you are angry or frustrated at a book, there's a good chance you're ready to write a Zettel

If you're moved by a book, there's a good chance you're ready -

Zettels (a.k.a. "enduring thoughts") are often arrived at, through the gateway of an emotion.

Cc @beauhaan
133/n "Dammit, Jim, I'm a DOCTOR, not a mid 20th century German Sociologist!

Why you keep asking me to Zettel? Are we not a @RoamBookClub?"

Yes indeed, McCoy!

But the group Zettelkasten IS the springboard that launches discussion, both in graph and in Zoom

134/n Drawing inspiration from the graph and from @joshskaja , I discovered a new "Semantic Gold Mine" (see the linked thread for a more complete description of what this is) ... https://twitter.com/Jeanvaljean689/status/1361715891973419011?s=20
135/n thanks so much @RaygunIcecream ! https://twitter.com/RaygunIcecream/status/1361950343890837507?s=19
136/n Without a DOUBT ... the most exciting thing about all of this ... is the chance to make all the principles of the "Culture Code" REAL - within the group of the @RoamBookClub itself.

cc: @beauhaan @RaygunIcecream @thepericulum
137/n ... dare I say it, this great thread from @towardsmeraki is an example of "Zettelquestioning" in action!

Thanks, Benni! https://twitter.com/towardsmeraki/status/1347623474542600192?s=19
