The tldr: Philadelphia let an organization that’s a self-described “group of college kids” administer the vaccine rollout. They had been running testing sites, so it’s not a decision that came out of the blue, but...no one involved were doctors.
And the group then 1) abruptly retooled itself into a for-profit business 2) added something to their site about being able to sell users’ data 3) booked too many appointments and left 80-90 year old people crying on the sidewalk unable to get their shot
4) the 22 year old CEO of the org (Philly Fighting COVID) was reportedly seen putting several vials of vaccine into his bag, as seniors cried outside
5) then he went to a party with his buds, where then pictures were taken of syringes going into arms. Do that math.

6) The org, which is formed of ALL white people, canceled vaccination events in Black neighborhoods and ghosted community leaders. Philly is 44% Black.

There is in fact a Black-led org, Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium, that consists of actual doctors, who haven’t been tapped for this. Although the city suggested they could maybe “work with” Philly Fighting COVID. Sure. Put the white 22 year olds in charge.

I feel so sorry for every volunteer and everyone else involved who were just trying their best to help people
Doroshin’s Twitter account seems to be gone, by the way. A shame, as I would have liked to yell at him personally.
