Three weeks ago today, a violent mob led by white supremacists ransacked the Capitol, resulting in the deaths of five people. They hunted lawmakers & VP Pence. They hung nooses outside the Capitol and carried the Confederate flag in. They scrawled "murder the media" in doorways.
Three weeks ago today, there was a domestic terror attack on our nation's Capitol, and the insurrectionists explicitly sought to overturn the election.

Three weeks ago today, 120+ Republicans in Congress voted to overturn the Electoral College results in AZ and PA.
Two weeks ago today, there was a vote to impeach President Trump. Ten Republicans joined all Democrats in voting to impeach. But the Senate did not convene for an emergency session, which would've required support from both Schumer and McConnell. The Senate reconvened on 1/19.
One week ago today, President Biden was inaugurated in the very spot that rioters had overran the Capitol.
Yesterday, most Senate Republicans voted to dismiss the impeachment trial, as Trump isn't in office. But the Senate didn't take the opportunity to try him when he was still in office, with McConnell opting against agreeing to call an emergency session with Schumer.
Three weeks isn't a terribly long time. Three weeks ago my loved ones were worried for my life as I evacuated from the Senate chamber to a secure location with senators.
But three weeks is a long enough time to give people distance, to allow some to begin to forget or even to lie about what occurred.
I realized waking up today that I didn't want to go to work, that there was this sense of needing to go back to sleep and not pay any attention to what's happening in the world. For the first time in 3 weeks, I don't have a major thing to report about on a Wednesday.
I suppose my final message to those who were there, to those who knew people who were there, or just to those who were so deeply affected by the assault on the Capitol - be kind to yourself. Take time to heal. Three weeks really isn't that long of a time.
