Kumbharpada thread 2
Making these clay cooking pots called Kudhua for the Temple Kitchens is what the potters of Kumbharpada at Puri have been practicing for centuries.
This is something that has been passed on for generations in this place and it's a very special style of clay
The process is done with a lot of care so that these pots are ready and strong enough to not only be cooked in,but also to be used as serving vessels and still maintain their structural integrity.
The people involved in this process take immense pride in the work that they do.
But with Covid last year and the temple being shut, their business went for toss and all the wares made were just stored, baking ovens shut and the clay all dried up.
This was double the hit they took, after 2019's devastating Fani Cyclone which not only broke most of the workshops and studios, but also put them back as most of the wares were destroyed.Even today you can see tell take signs of the devastation here.
But as it is with human nature, they picked it up from they had left it and are now back to doing what they do best.
CREATE.Create with a big smile, because that's what the love doing!!
