/7 Rape cannot be "portrayed responsibly" (never mind ethically ffs) because, amongst other things, the creators are NOT in control of the narrative because IT DOES NOT EXIST IN A VACUUM. Porn is the most distilled example of Barthes' Death of the Author in the digital age. https://twitter.com/nona/status/1353843172418400257
/7 This myopic view that porn exists only within the confines of its *creation* is a position that pro-porn advocates are compelled to take, because the alternative is that it *does* have an impact on the ~real world~, and thus is both a driver and representation of misogyny.
/7It is also an entirely false distinction to say that "misogyny not porn" causes rape. Firstly, porn portrays misogyny. Secondly, porn use has been scientifically linked to increasing sympathetic attitudes towards sexual violence, as well as violence against women more broadly.
/7 Further, porn use is an escalating behaviour. Starting out watching ~vanilla~ (stupid phrase) material typically leads to a desire to see increasingly violent and degrading content.
/7 Why do you think mainstream porn now has a deluge of material that shows the physical destruction of women's bodies? This content typically didn't exist 20/30 years ago. It's because the USERS (the market) demand it!
/7 This in turn NORMALISES what users consider to be appropriate sexual behaviour. Hence why there has been a notable increase in ~non-consensual~ choking/slapping etc, which men are now CONDITIONED to think women prima facie want to endure.
/7 I am sick to death of these intellectually deficient ~sex positive~ (stupid phrase no.2) hot takes that amount to nothing more than rape apologism. And in a magazine aimed at young girls too. I absolutely fucking despair. /end
Putting this here for posterity in case the author develops any semblance of critical thinking skills and deletes her idiotic tweet
