a year ago when we were first hearing about COVID, I expressed concern about it - and was told by nearly everyone I was overreacting and it wouldn’t come to the US. In March I expressed concern about lockdown, and was again told i was overreacting and that would be over by May.
In April I openly told everyone that I didn’t think people would follow the rules or wear masks or do anything they were supposed to and that the government wasn’t going to support people. Again, “you’re overreacting!” But even I thought it would be over by the end of summer
As March approaches once again, I am finding it harder and harder to cope with the fact that over an entire year of our lives will have been taken from us because the government just straight up does not give a fuck about people. Money is not real and the economy recovers.
you know what doesn’t recover? People who die unnecessarily from a pandemic that was poorly managed. People who lost loved ones from pure incompetence and selfishness. Nothing can ever make up for the lost time and lost lives
Obviously the government should have paid people to stay home — but stay at home orders should have been fucking enforced. I’ll remember who wasn’t taking it seriously and was having large family gatherings or parties because they decided they were bored of the global pandemic.
