i was talking to my teacher abt this book i was reading and they commented “how do u have the time and energy to read on top of schoolwork?” which struck me as odd. its like they dont expect u to read and develop independent thought which is contradictory with the paradigm of

education that the school is supposed to have. ofc they tell u that u should have silent reading time an hour each day since elementary school but r surprised when u do it. its not only a bankruptcy of time btw its also a deficit in mental energy, school and hw can be exhausting

ofc if given complaints of workload, teachers respond “but u have so much time to go on tiktok or instagram” while not realizing kids choose these activities bc it’s simply mindless. no shit we dont paint the mona lisa in our free time, we can barely think, let alone create
