Adductor engagement is, oftentimes, the most under trained aspect of movement along the OL. Engaging the adductors will allow the OL to keep their power in their pass set, as well as the run block. Here’s a way to SKAQ and work adductor engagement.
Start stationary. 1/
Start stationary. 1/
The athlete should focus on maintaining their posture as the resistance band is applying constant pull on the leg, and squeezing that adductor. This will show the athlete what muscles are being engaged (adductor) and HOW to engage them. The athlete should remain strong and 2/
Keep their knee/leg in an athletic and powerful position. They should remain balanced. Remind the athlete of this, as they may try and use their body weight to resist the force being applied. I have the athletes hold for 10 seconds on each leg in right and left handed posture. 3/
As the athlete becomes proficient in engaging their adductors, I generally move onto incorporating another stimulant. If I have a large enough group, I’ll add another band, or another band and a med ball to work core engagement. Here both legs have bands to work on engagement. 4/
Add movement when the ATH is proficient in stationary. I cue the athlete with “drive” to drive off the left foot when setting to his right. 1 thing to keep an eye on is that the ATH doesn’t disengage the adductor and re-engage before movement, seen in the last 2 sets, here. 5/
Both legs should be trained in the movement. Right and left need to have the stimulant applied through setting to the right. ALSO, while powering down inside, both legs need to be worked. Focus on deliberate movement. Athletes should focus on the skill acquired, not speed. 6/6
