Providence Therapeutics of Calgary is commencing clinical trials (Phase I) on a vaccine that it has developed. A spokesperson (the CEO?) believes that the vaccine shows a great deal of promise. If all goes well, it might be approved in December of this year. /2 #cdnpoli #abpoli
2/ The spokesperson indicated in an interview that the vaccine might be available in late January/22. What would be the point you ask? As he noted, the global demand for supply will last for several years. Providence's vaccine is already designed for the South African variant. /3
3/ IMHO, this gives Canada some institution knowledge as to vaccine development. The company did do some whining about lack of federal government support, but did receive at least $5M. /4
4/ Irrespective of successful vaccine development, there's the matter of rapid large-scale production. Canada would have been remiss were it to ignore the issue of production capacity in its order-placing.
