When I say Lee County, Florida is open, I mean OPEN.
I can't believe how many people have liked, shared and commented on this. I want to add a few things. First, I posted this as a follow up to a thread I wrote the day before where I shared my observations being here as compared to SF (where I'm from) https://twitter.com/jenneraub/status/1353757532054048770
Secondly, Lee County does indeed have covid cases, deaths, and hospitalizations. If you want to see data for the county, you can find it here — cases & hospitalizations are quite stable/steady.

Third, I am not suggesting all countries can just reopen immediately to the extent Lee County is open. This area has been open now for many months and it's possible the virus has circulated for a long time, meaning there is a degree of immunity in the community.
Florida has a lot of unique advantages in the winter, one of which is getting plenty of sunshine and there are some strong correlations between vitamin d levels & severe covid outcomes. Also correlations between climate/seasons & spread in general.
I posted the photos (& videos in other posts) in part to support my earlier thread and also to just shed light on the fact it is pretty back to normal here (and by looking at the data, hasn't succumbed to total calamity).
I personally want to return to this world (albeit I would prefer to dance to better music and hang out with a younger crowd🤣) so I hope it can give everyone hope that ultimately wherever you are, we CAN and WILL return to a life that is fun, joyous, and happy. Soon!🤗💗✨
