THREAD: How we can make #BillC12 a bold and ambitious climate law.

#C12 is a new legislation that could finally help Canada meet all of its climate goals. But there’s a problem: it doesn’t actually hold the government legally accountable to targets.

It needs 3 key amendments

1. Take urgent action based on science and independent expertise.

#BillC12 must set the first emissions target for 2025 (not 2030), and ban fossil fuel executives from the advisory panel. The fossil fuel lobby shouldn't shape climate law during a climate emergency.

2. Put workers and communities first, no exceptions.

#BillC12 should be aligned with Canada’s commitment to UNDRIP, and set clear targets for job creation to ensure a #JustTransition for all workers.

3. Create true legal accountability for the government.

The bill needs to set clear, unconditional obligations on the Minister of Environment to actually meet targets—not just plan to meet them.
