Many of us devoted intense effort and attention to the 2020 election season. Now we have to find a livable but steady pace of ongoing engagement in the fight to protect and strengthen rule of law and democratic pluralism. 2/
Much as a post-pandemic world will require new and more robust public and individual health practices, the post-Trump political world demands new, more robust institutions, laws, and individual activism. 3/
For those who are feeling tired, here are some suggestions: figure out one or two causes or issues of particular interest to you and keep up with those. No need for everybody to keep track of everything. 4/
Keep both good moments and bad moments in perspective. For example, enjoy Harris ceremonially swearing in Yellen AND condemn McConnell’s hypocrisy about his commitment to bipartisanship. 5/
Engage in everyday activism. Keep up with groups like @DemocracyDocket @IndivisibleTeam @fairfightaction @NAACP_LDF - pick one or two - and take their advice about grassroots efforts you can undertake - often just a phone call or two is all that is needed. 6/
Educate yourself about one or two local or state issues where your involvement and attention can make a difference. If possible find local political reporting and catch up once a week or once every two weeks. 7/
Rebuilding and strengthening U.S. democracy is a huge, hard endeavor. We achieve it with small but steady efforts and the occasional big push. 8/8
