Inclusive hiring is not giving disabled people jobs that are written for able-bodied individuals. #DisabilityTwitter #DisabledinSTEM
I realize I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating. Real inclusivity seeks out disabled people and applies their talents in ways that uniquely accommodate and make use of the whole person, disability and all.
Job ads that target disability as part of inclusion efforts need to think about this more deeply than just hiring someone who checks a box.
Accommodations are wonderful, but are there also ways to tailor expectations to a given disability? I think there are. And I think that’s real inclusion. And that’s a stronger society with better representation and participation.
Every person reading this will eventually be disabled, if lucky. Many will wish to continue working. What should that look like? Should those folks be forced to retire or what should this look like?
Thanks for reading. Please share your thoughts, if willing and able or disabled or did-enabled.
