It took me a moment to process that this means Tilt Brush is shutting down... Tilt showed me how to unlock my creativity, I owe my entire career to what this team made. Here's a thread of the good times from the last few years with @tiltbrush đŸ„° https://twitter.com/TechCrunch/status/1354135600467734528
There was always this "what's next" feeling in the Tilt Brush community. I loved watching artists share new workflows and showcase new styles we didn't know were possible in Tilt. The Tilt team listened and adapted to the community too. It was all just so organic and exciting.
In the early days, @lizaledwards art ALWAYS inspired me to keep going. She was the 1st person I knew who really took Tilt Brush detail to the next level, and she was able to do a lot of that on like V1.1 without world scaling. https://twitter.com/lizaledwards/status/805157821981528066?s=20
. @Steveteeps opened my eyes to the high-res rendering side of Tilt Brush, and got me thinking about the potential professional use of Tilt Brush. From day one he was making hyper-stylized renders like these with C4D weekly, sometimes daily. https://twitter.com/Steveteeps/status/832103594107101184?s=20
Remember when @estellatse would share monthly MR videos with @VRScout where she'd somehow recreate a 2D classic into a VR world?! Her work has taught me so much about color and form, and her general excitement for the medium always pumped me up. https://twitter.com/estellatse/status/902973189029892096?s=20
lolololol hiđŸ€Ł
"between these interesting artistic moments are awkward periods... revealing just a skinny dude in a white undershirt and a headset twirling around in front of his couch—a raccoon statue on the couch's end table his sole audience member" https://www.vice.com/en/article/nz7mjk/dancing-man--google-vr-paintbrush--a-world-of-imagination
The whole Dr. Strange commercial thing with @sutu_eats_flies + @Steveteeps was such a hilarious adventure. I was so giddy after returning from that trip because it confirmed for me that being a VR artist could be a viable career. https://twitter.com/Marvel/status/792123823516561409?s=20
Speaking of @sutu_eats_flies, he's been just constantly expanding on his trippy atmospheric style since the beginning. Have you seen the Tilt Brush tunnels he's made for @TheWaveXR and his own VR apps??? He just has his workflow locked down. https://twitter.com/sutu_eats_flies/status/1021544967880069120?s=20
Remember the remix parties through Poly? Where one artist would start a piece and keep passing it around till five or 10 other artists left their mark? The playful nature of all of it was just such a welcoming aspect of being part of this community. https://twitter.com/VRScout/status/941814949629665281?s=20
THIS WAS HUGE! This toolkit enabled so many projects, and is honestly the reason many artists were able to make a living in 2018 with just Tilt Brush and Unity. This was the kicker that convinced so many teams to consider Tilt a professional tool. https://twitter.com/timoni/status/936286213715017728?s=20
And, because of this Toolkit, the @MuseumOR was able to create a whole dang VR museum dedicated to art made with Tilt Brush. This isolating experience of working in VR was slowly transforming into a social experience. https://twitter.com/MuseumOR/status/1232737279958908928?s=20
One of my favorite Tilt Brush projects I worked on was Aeronaut VR, the @ViacomNEXT project made with @thedak @Ksings22 @RobRuffler @KenWaagner @dmeeker. It was my first time testing my Tilt > Unity workflows, and It gave me SO MUCH hope for the medium. https://twitter.com/Cannes_Lions/status/1012372222135164928?s=20
I miss these performances with @tiltbrush and @VRScout!!! They were always so fun and spur of the moment feeling. I loved being able to meet everyone in person who I only knew from Twitter, then just dance and create with Tilt Brush. https://twitter.com/kcimc/status/913632902864179200?s=20
And these things just exploded!! One gig I'd be performing for friends in a studio, the next I'd be on a giant conference stage. All the while I'd be bugging the Tilt team about adding new features I needed to perform😆 And they were ALWAYS so helpful! https://twitter.com/DannyBittman/status/991021400843407362?s=20
And watching @VR_Rosie absolutely shred the performance art space with Tilt Brush in the last two years has been extremely inspiring. She's hands down the most active Tilt Brush artist out there inspiring others to pick it up. https://twitter.com/VR_Rosie/status/1349066611030941698?s=20
Remember Delila's Gift made by @Cabbibo and all his gooey experiments with the Tilt Brush toolkit!? I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure this was the first interactive experience made with Tilt Brush. https://twitter.com/Cabbibo/status/816812598863609856?s=20
And just an endless amount of cinematic experimental work, like that of @kayleigh_eliza_ who creates Tilt Brush scenes for the music she performs herself. Everyone has their own Tilt style and it SHOWS. https://twitter.com/kayleigh_eliza_/status/1325171545208057858?s=20
I LIVED for this kind of news. Kids around the world got to try VR for the first time, and they always created the coolest things in Tilt Brush without any training at all. I loved seeing hundreds of these kinds of videos over the years :) https://twitter.com/TheVRLady1/status/1169714676831326211?s=20
. @Azadux's experiments with photogrammetry and Tilt Brush were always really interesting to me. And I miss running the old MR show with him where we'd interview the VR artists of 2017! https://twitter.com/Azadux/status/933036581048348672?s=20
AND IT MADE IT ONTO THE TONIGHT SHOW MULTIPLE TIMES!!! Which btw, if you haven't tried Pictionary mode with Tilt Brush, that'll be a great post-vaccine party game for you.
And the community is huge! Last year I released a "How to Become a VR Artist" tutorial series, and each video in my series got between 20k-50k views. However, for those just starting, I don't think this is the "end" of VR art. This is a transition. https://twitter.com/DannyBittman/status/1204936031952347136?s=20
Tilt Brush's UX is unbeatable, no other VR tool is as intuitive to everyone as Tilt Brush. It's loss is MASSIVE and heartbreaking. But to me, this is the Tilt team handing off the torch, not declaring the end of VR art.
So THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING @tiltbrush!!!! The last few years have been dark, but you were always such a beacon to me, I'll never shut up about how much you've helped me.

If anyone has more Tilt memories, please share here, it's impossible for me to collect it all :)
