All Jewish people are indigenous to the Levant, and it is nothing short of depraved to deny this fact. We have been murdered countless times over in nearly every country because of our indigenous identity, practices, and refusal to relinquish our connection to our land.
I give people the benefit of the doubt, so I will assume this is not widely understood because we have had to reverse-justify our indigeneity to hostile actors. For 4000 years we have existed as the Nation of Israel, used a calendar tethered to the harvest cycles of our land, etc
It wasn’t until malicious people with even more malicious agendas started trying not just to rewrite history but erase jewish identity and invert jewish suffering (“European colonizers” “white supremacists”) that we needed to justify who we are in this way to the non-jewish world
Never in Europe were we viewed as European, we were disenfranchised and murdered for being a “west asiatic other.” Archetypal example is German Jews before/during WWII; they were by far the most assimilated Jewish community in history until American Jewry became what it is today
Of course, the non-Jewish world now rejects our indigenous identity because it doesn’t fit their current anti-jewish narrative—they ignore archeological, cultural, and definitional evidence only to claim we are using Nazi race science when DNA tests prove our Levantine ancestry.
So yeah, arguing “if you were actually indigenous you wouldn’t have to spend so much time justifying it” holds zero weight. We wouldn’t spend so much time on this subject if people stopped violently disrespecting and erasing our identity to fit a shitty, ahistorical narrative.
Seriously, go look up definitions of indigeneity. We naturally meet every parameter (save the one non-sensical element of the 1982 UN definition added specifically to exclude Jews because we had achieved self-determination by time of writing)
Also, here are some great things to ponder if you’re going to undertake understanding the topic of jewish self-determination (the person who wrote is on priv and asked for their name to be blacked out)
I’m not reactionary by nature (nor concise lol) and this is a very intricate subject so Twitter is not the best medium for me or this topic. There are hundreds of tweets a day a that I could quote that make this thread appropriate. It’s very sad.
DM me if you want to discuss further, I am always happy to share sources and talk.
