Because people sometimes misunderstand my views on things, I wanted to pin a Tweet explaining my views on covid, kids, and individual liberties—and why I think it’s entirely consistent with being a Democrat who supported Warren in the primary and despises Donald Trump. 1/
The basic misunderstanding of covid—I’m tackling it first because it is at the root of this—is this:

Covid is real. It’s tragic. It’s not a hoax. BUT, the severity of the virus has been exaggerated for media and political reasons, and most people wildly overestimate it.
Covid has an extreme distribution of risk:

It poses ~0 risk to kids, extremely low risk to young adults, and extremely high risk to the very old.

People know that the risk increases with age, but almost no one understands how much. This Gallup poll shows that:
For a state specific look, here’s Pennsylvania.

More people *over 105* have died of covid than between the ages of 20 and 24.
Meanwhile, the price of covid restrictions is astronomical, most notably in the schools—which so much evidence shows are not major contributors to covid spread.

Severe child abuse cases are going unreported and child suicides are spiking in some districts.
