The executive order explicitly counts the LGBTQ community as historically underserved, and defines equity as “the consistent and systematic fair, just, and impartial treatment” of all communities, including ours.
@POTUS is recognizing not only the inequalities marginalized communities face every day, but also the intersectional identities many of us carry.
That is transformative both in national politics and the ways in which it will impact the lived experiences of LGBTQ Americans.

Federal agencies now have the charge of working to ensure that in budget and policy, LGBTQ Americans are represented fairly.
They will have to examine how their programs perpetuate systemic barriers and work to end them.

LGBTQ people are more likely to face poverty, housing instability and food insecurity than other Americans. Those are equity issues, and they have real policy solutions.
There’s still much more work to do. But this is the making of historic change: a recognition of the problem and a promise with the force of the federal government behind it to begin a transformative effort.
