I have a little thread with a question at the end. I would love to hear your thoughts.
Recently, I learned that @mondonews makes beautifully produced soundtracks on vinyl. I'm sure they're great to listen to...but the DESIGNS are incredibly masterful. Here are a few.

The thing is, I looked at their collection of soundtracks and immediately wanted to buy a ton of them. Not even because of the music, but because the sheer power of the design was so remarkable.

I promise I am going somewhere. :)

In any case, the difference between what THEY are doing and what a lot of more mainstream, corporate soundtracks is, obvious care and focus on the EXPERIENCE of DESIGN.
When you hold a beautifully designed book or album cover...it means something.

And a couple days ago, I went past a magazine rack, and was struck by how little care seemed to go into the design. The magazine rack used to be a little gallery, but even magazines ABOUT beauty (fashion or gardening) are just covered with ugly text, moving THIS direction.

I see a similar thing in comics, even with the wonderful artists we have. A tremendous amount of covers are fairly generic poses, often completely unrelated to the story within, often with ungainly text (text can be beautiful, done well!).

The thing is, the cover on a comic used to be a BIG DEAL. Even if it was for, you know, some c-list book, it would get serious attention, it was the face you showed the customer.
I still see a lot of brilliant covers, but I don't always feel the same EMPHASIS on design.

Which is odd, because we know that there is an audience that will buy things because they are beautiful or shocking to look at.
This probably seems trivial, but it leads to a larger question.
How important is design to you, in the things you love?

And a follow-up, if you would...
Show an image of something you bought because the design and package was so stunning you couldn't NOT buy it, please.

This is one of my favorite covers because I can't think of another like it...by the great @daleeaglesham, it makes your own filthy mind do all the dirty work. I love it.
Wow, someone recommended I look up @waxworkrecords for this thread on beautiful designs, and HOLY CRAP. Look at THESE vinyl albums!
DESIGN.
I am clearly going to have to have all these.
