If I understand the AZ situation right, it's basically this.
AZ are a chippy. We phoned in our order of six haddock and chips and paid for it two hours before opening time.

The EU, on the other hand, hummed and hawed. They might go for pizza. They might have a Chinese. They then settled on the Chippy. They have turned up at opening time and now want some of our Haddock. Despite the fact we ordered it first.
This seems unfair. Why should we have to hang around while a fresh batch of haddock is put in the fryer just because they've turned up famished?
I'm aware that introducing seafish into an analogy about EU/UK relations could be regarded as provocative. It was inadvertent.
