Let's talk pranks (cause of that AITA)

A good prank is funny for all, quick, harmless.

A perfect example of a good prank is "Pickle Pocketing"

Ross Creations did a video of it. You get some pickles, dry them, glue on googly eyes (optional) and sneak them into people's pockets
It is a prank bc it is
- practical, not verbal
- funny
- unexpected outcome

Those are the ingredients.

He has others like painting sleeping people's nails, stacking bread on people. Great stuff.
Bad pranks that get popular are the destroy gf makeup but buy new, fake harm to self or other but reveal truth, scare someone, etc.

These don't cut it because they are
- not funny
- unsafe

They also lay groundwork for abuse
The Abuse-But-Just-Kidding prank isn't a prank.

It's paving the way to make you accept abuse.

Read that over and over until it sticks.

It's teaching you to quell your instinctive reactions and tolerate abusive behavior in case there's a reward.
They move the reward out farther and farther.

Smash the makeup but look here's new, better.

Smash the makeup but then next week on your b-day there's new better, or a spa apt.

Smash the makeup but next month an order from fenty arrives.

Smash the makeup but no reward ever
They also use it to make you tolerate non prank abuse

Call gf wrong name during super staged fight for tiktok

Call gf wrong name and film react and show her film

Call gf wrong name during sex "as prank" and laugh at her and say it's ok bc prank

Call gf wrong name during sex.
Hallmarks of an abusive prank

- you should've seen your FACE
- you're overreacting
- laughing while forcing contact like a hug
- revealing the camera to influence reaction
Hallmarks of a good prank

- person realizes they've been pranked without being told
- natural reaction to prank is laughter

Again

The natural reaction to a good prank is laughter
