As progressives, it is easy to become jaded about the possibility of meaningful change.
The fight for a more democratic America is far from over, but in just the first week, the Biden Administration has acted on many of progressives’ top asks. (Thread) https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/rep-omar-squad-members-have-do-list-biden-n1250638

Here are just a few of the policies the Administration put in place in the first week:
An interagency fight to root out systemic racism
Rescinding the ban on diversity and inclusion training
A ban on federal contracts with private prisons https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/26/biden-to-announce-racial-equity-plan-and-sign-executive-actions.html

On climate, the Biden team:
Revoked the Keystone XL pipeline permit
Put a moratorium on oil and natural gas leases
Reentered the Paris Climate Agreement
Reinstated vehicle emissions standards https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/20/business/biden-keystone-paris-climate-arctic/index.html

On immigration, the Administration:
Ended Donald Trump’s hateful Muslim ban
Protected DREAMers who came to this country as children
Reinstated Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians
Announced a 100 day deportation moratorium https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/20/biden-immigration-reform-trump-executive-order

On COVID-19, Biden announced:
A mask mandate on all federal property
Extension of the federal eviction moratorium
A pause on student loan payments https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/21/politics/biden-national-coronavirus-plan/index.html

Biden will also use Department of Labor authority to protect workers from COVID-19 . https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2021/01/21/biden-executive-order-osha-safety/
On foreign policy, the White House announced:
A reversal of Trump’s ban on trans people serving in the military

A groundbreaking review of the economic impact of sanctions https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-administration-to-review-possible-sanctions-relief-in-response-to-covid-19-11611354940

The push for change is not over yet. This is still much more the Administration can do on executive orders, including:
A bold cancellation of student debt held by the federal government
Producing key drugs at low costs using existing authority

I hope you’ll join me in pushing for these changes. https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/call-on-biden-to-be-bold-in-the-first-100-days/
And if we truly want to reform our democracy, rebuild our economy, and address the climate crisis, we have to start by ending one of the most anti-democratic elements of our broken system: THE SENATE FILIBUSTER.
Let’s keep pushing for bold change, even as we celebrate our wins.
