racism is distinct from anti-semitism because anti-semitisim is directed at jewish people, who can be white. jewish people can experience both racism and anti-semitism if they are jewish and a person of color but jewish people are not, by default, people of color.
this view is controversial basically because the existience of israel is predicated on the belief that being jewish is a genetically distinct lineage.
that is, israel as it is constructed and presently exists is an ethnostate and one that exists to further a european colonial project.
this is very difficult to talk about because criticism of israel and the project of israel tends to automatically make shitheads think you're one of them. i want to be clear: my criticism of israel is not criticism of the right of jewish people to live and exist.
jewish people have the invioable right to exist, to practice their traditions, to have families and communities, to experience their faith and share it as they see fit.
israel privledges european jewish experience, and this is made clear by the fact that the israeli state does not recognize jews of color the way it does white jews (see: the israeli state not recognizing kaifeng jews, the israeli state not recognizing the the abayudaya jews).

all of this is to say: no, criticizing a white jewish writer is not "racist."
it is also important to express that the project of defining jewish identity genetically/racially upholds white supremacy.
