Impeachment Trial Nerd Note: In 1876 when the Senate tried the former Secretary of War William Belknap, the Chief Justice swore in the President Pro Tempore.
Sen. Rand Paul R-KY challenges the constitutionality of holding this trial of former President Trump. Senate voting to table Paul's point of order. A 'Yes' vote is to defeat Paul's challenge. Note how many 'No' votes Paul gets. It could give a strong clue on the outcome.
Senate votes 55-45 to table the Paul point of order. That should pretty well tell us that the Senate is unlikely to convict President Trump of anything in this trial.
